And with 50 year old tech! I do wonder if humanity will get to a point where we can retrieve the spacecraft at some point in the future (cue Star Trek fantasies)

Important consideration. This is purely anecdata, but my parents didn't pay for my education, but I have a lot of friends whose parents did. Those of us grinding to pay for and get through school really took it a lot more seriously and valued it a lot higher. I saw a lot of peers treating it as a party opportunity and just striving to pass their classes rather than actually learning and deeply understanding the material. It could certainly be correlation without causation, but it left an impression on me. For this reason I'm intentionally not paying for my kids college (though I am offering free room and board, and even a car, in my house should they choose to live at home).

Another interesting point I didn't see made in TFA, is that this decline started years before AI came bursting onto the scene and has continued on the same trajectory (for those others considering the impact AI has/will had/have on the perceived value of higher-ed).

That's a fair point, thank you

Not GP, but thank you those are interesting points.

However I think you're assuming/reading into the question a whole lot more than is there. Unfortunately your otherwise good answer comes across very hostile because you are assuming (rightly or wrongly) that the asker is parroting MAGA propaganda. I can assure you I am very much not MAGA, yet I thought it was a good question because it's interesting to see if/when Google stopped their 2008 policy and why. Your "why" makes sense to me, but you almost lost me with stuff like, "Hope this all helps clarify and gives you some reason to rethink the MAGA propaganda that tries to equate Denali and the Gulf of Mexico" which feels completely unwarranted.

I have the same question. What did happen? Did Google just change it or did they display both like the 2008 policy?

This seems like a question that should be able to factually answer with something like, "they changed it and did not include both names" or "they changed it but included both names". I don't see how it's a troll to wonder about that.

That's the beauty of gambling from a macro perspective though: you don't need scripted outcomes. The house wins either way. In fact scripted outcomes would be bad because not only is there heavy reputational stakes that could go south in a hurry, but that enables people to beat the house odds. If anything this seems like an incentive to keep things on the straight and narrow.

Necessary disclaimer since people will try to assume my position through my analysis: I don't like sports gambling, have never done it, and I hate that the ads have taken over.

This is the primary selling point of podman to me actually: If you run any non-standard firewall rules (in my case I use virt-manager to run a handful of VMs using a bridge so each VM can get an IP directly on my router's subnet), some stuff may suddenly break because Docker takes a wrecking ball to the firewall rules.

Thank you for the explanation! I couldn't agree more with your stance, and I appreciate deeply you fighting to maintain your (correct) principles. You've gained at least one fan and new user today.

my guess is a lot of Java people who refuse to get on the functional train

Out of curiosity, have you played God of War (2018) or God of War: Ragnarok (2022)[1]? I find the level of polish/stability of those games to be utterly incredible (almost to the point of ruining many other games for me), but I avoid Nintendo out of principle so I have no basis of comparison. Would love to hear from someone who has experienced both how they compare.

[1]: Given those were originally Playstation exclusives, it might not be the best example/comparison, but they have been available on Steam for quite some time

To save a click, the whole post:

> Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommended that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Not unexpected given the current status, but still pretty wild to see the NSA weigh in, and with such a drastic solution (taking the site offline)

I too have an appreciation for crypto miners who don't try to hide the process. I inherited a PHP app that had been hacked and mined, and the wallet key was even an argument to the process it spawned :-)
