>250k trees seems like a lot from you looking out your window. From the perspective of trees we cut down every year (that we account for) it is close to a rounding error.

Because there's a bigger bad the smaller bad is totally fine and nobody should care?

And it seems it was 400k in total :

"In addition to the 250,000 trees felled at Muhos, Annala estimates that an additional 150,000 trees were felled at Otanmäki"

I don't care how sick our society is to normalize cutting 400k trees for data centers. It's wrong.

"Around 1 in 10 Japanese people reach their 30s without ever having had sex"

I actually assumed it's way more. Interesting.

Pretty much. Porn is also getting better and more varied, filling more niches people have. And by porn I don't mean the things you only see on pornhub and from professional studios. Anything that gets you off.

Have you guys seen how beautiful some of the women in Kpop are? Not only that, but they are also idols, meaning they have a strong presence on social media (post pictures, shorts), appear on variety shows, interact with fans through all sorts of fanmeets, online services and so on... They make fans feel like they have a relationship with them. After an event/concert you can usually easily find 4K fancams of the idol. They fill that gap both emotionally and sexually as they're really lovely girls. Japan also has a strong idol culture, although it's not as popular as Korea's internationally.

Then there's things like onlyfans, live-streamers and so on... Of course people are having less sex. On top of what you said of people just generally choosing to interact less because of the amount of digital entertainment. 50 years ago if you didn't get of your house the most entertainment you would have is probably books or TV, situation is wildly different these days. With AI probably gonna get even worse.

All that said, I don't think it's necessarily bad. But for future generations human interaction won't be the default anymore. They will have toto re-discover the value of that interaction.

I'm always amazed how entitled people are these days for free stuff. That being said, it does show costs are piling up for these AI companies if even Google is restricting free access to a relatively smaller model amid the AI hype train. Good!

More novelty and marketing than anything useful. Anyone who has done any cleaning will most likely agree.

I don't understand why they have this option. Why would anyone toggle this on?

Twitter has gone from relatively open to instagram / facebook level of closedness where I can't even share a video with my friends because it asks them to log in. I had to rely on nitter and xcancel for that... Now that no longer works either

I have one niche that I use twitter for. If it wasn't for that - would have deleted my account long time ago. Things like this push me towards that direction, though.

It's been a while since I last used YouTube Premium. But don't you get a small white indicator for "promotions" on the video bar? I thought this was a YouTube premium thing?

It feels restrictive, especially since it’s part of a broader pattern of limiting user freedom on platforms. For instance, on PC you can't simply right click on a video and save it on bluesky. They add some frontend bullshit to prevent you from doing that. On "new" Reddit I remember when you saved an image it would always have a watermark on it. On PC, you can't preview the raw image/video either. On Instagram you can't save images at all easily. Cant view content without being logged in, etc.. Now contrast this with platforms like Mastodon where I can do whatever I want with the uploaded media there and there are barely any such restrictions.

Strange... I don't ever recall ever coming across an image linking somewhere outside of lemmy. Most people just upload images directly into their instance when creating posts.

In general never felt like I saw some dodgy link or anything nefarious
