Been entrepreneur for years... nothing big, mostly online marketing ventures. Not a "hacker" or programmer of any sort, more of a business minded and idea person. Currently have a concept that I truly believe will be worth millions in revenue and/or acquisition and am now in the process of making that a reality.

agreed.

I currently have detailed wireframes, a UI design mockup, and a complete overview description. So those should help.

I would plan to learn it, while at the same time have someone else develop this project. So I'm not delaying my work, I'm just learning while the work is going on.

I'm outsourcing my current project... at least to get the prototype.

I want to learn it for long-term rewards. It all sounds a little daunting though..

Travis, you & mark make great points.

Any insight into where to begin. With so many different programming languages (php, java, ruby, c++ yada yada yada)... where does a newbie even start?

I agree. I'm already going out to local meet-ups etc. and networking that way. This post was to expand that process.

I'm essentially looking into any option at this point and you make perfect sense with your response. Thank you

I agree with you marknutter... to a point.

Although I don't know how long it takes to learn programming... I'd be willing to bet it's not a quick learn. So, would it be wiser for me to find someone to assist in developing a prototype and while that is happening I study and learn some basics.

Or, is it better to delay an idea for months or more while I learn and then struggle through doing it on my own.

Personally I think it makes more sense to find help and learn at the same time. But I completely agree - I do need to learn this stuff, somehow.

didn't see a place to put my contact info... I'll find that and do it now.

I've been in online marketing for years. Currently working at a large ad agency as a Sr. Search Media planner. 9-5 is not the way I want to go for the next 25+ years.

I am serious, and have reached out to a few programmers I know to start discussing the idea. I just don't "speak" programmer so I'm not sure the best place to start.

does it make sense to find a cheap outsourced (money is tight) programmer to help start on some of the very basic features?
