Could this be the best contender to the stupidest idea on the last 10 years by a big tech corporation?

In the past several people have done this I have know of at least four, they got the interview but no success story of getting in, best of luck.

Because it's a perfect competition market and there are no significant differences between players, they all offer the same catalogue and almost the same user experience.
