If it’s paid you are still the product just more valuable

Ah so I show up at the bank and tell them “Please give me 40 million so I can buy apartments and rent them out - oh and I also have no money or safety of my own so just hope that I will be able to pay it back”

Good luck with that at a German bank.

Probably the only thing that was true too.

It’s impossible to buy 30 apartments in Munich for normal people with normal salary. You need at least 40 million euros, more if you are not only buying in unattractive areas.

I made this a lot of times, it’s my favourite pancake recipe now - I go a bit easier on the eggs and butter but the nutmeg is the real trick!

I guess I got really lucky - I just talked to friends and found three different jobs through their recommendations. Never had a proper job application or interview in my life - I reckon this will bite me in the ass sometime

You can’t get private Slack messages easily if you don’t have direct access to the account. There is an audit feature on the Enterprise version that allows it, and you can appeal to slack to open the messages due to a crime or similar - but AFAIK on the normal plans you are out of luck of you want to read private messages as workspace owner.

This is where working at an actual construction site would be a good experience for you — or any developer really.

Run to the truck and get nails also requires explanation/experience to get right if you have never done it before — what nails?which truck?how many?etc.

It is completely the same thing. The first time around you might have to explain the menial tasks in detail - btw a good exercise anyway, since you need to be able to explain aka understand the task anyway, after all you need to review later. And the first time around there will be some mistakes or misunderstandings.

But it gets better over time. With everyone.

I disagree with your point that this analogy does not apply.

You say there are some codebases that need over 9000 IQ to do anything. While that might be true, it is not the norm and a small fraction, so it’s not relevant to the broader argument.

You say it’s completely different in programming. Sure it doesn’t help if one of your workers is a complete idiot — but that was not the premise - it was unskilled but energetic.

And there are always menial tasks to do — you pointed out some example yourself.

So to sum up my points are: - most codebases do not require gigabrain for every single change

- there are always menial tasks to be done in a team environment

- “untalented” people don’t necessarily slow things down in development

- in fact talent is irrelevant when writing code - I would even argue that being talented is not always an advantage, in any field or profession - but that last point probably would need some more explanation.

That’s kind of the point of it too — I just need AI to take care of the unimportant stuff so I can concentrate on the interesting things

Been working at a friend’s company for a long time — for me it has been one of the best decisions of my life - would definitely do it again.

We still separate work and personal life and it works out for me.

Lots of people who don’t want to mix money and friendship in this thread — while I understand where you are coming from it never was a problem for me. With loans I just loan as much money as I would also be willing to give as a gift. I guess everyone handles friendship differently though.

Joining as employee is not the same as founding a company together.

We have research but I think it’s far from rock-solid proven.

Like any idea about squishy human brains and its products it remains to be seen and can’t be as easily proven as for example research in Physics.

I would say current research has a probability of 50% of being correct at best.
