One of my favorite pieces of technical writing is Brandur Leach’s “Transactionally Staged Job Drains in Postgres” where he reasons through the outbox pattern from first principles. I remember reading it for the first time and feeling like I had been let in on a big secret. Clever, simple, powerful. I still use the pattern all the time.

Ironic to show ads only to your users with the least spending power. Me thinks this will not last. Once the ads get “good enough” they will be everywhere.

I just want to express my gratitude to Wes and the team of people who worked on this. I had to go back and read it twice that it's been 10 years since the PR for v5 was opened. That's wild! I can only imagine the immense amount of work it must have been to change the inertia of this project. Cheers to a new chapter!

Really cool! But your site could really benefit from having more examples. One image is not enough. Maybe you can link to an instagram account with examples that users share with you. I could see this being a fun activity at a wedding event.

Yes - 5 years ago I had my own small startup building Shopify apps. The business wasn’t growing as fast as I’d have liked and so I was taking on part time contract work on the side. I responded to a job post here on HN from a YC company, and ended up doing a little contract work for them. They liked it and they came back a few months later to see if I’d join them full time to lead the product eng team. I considered my options, and what I liked about the opportunity at the startup was that they were building in a similar space as I was with my business, except better capitalized and further along. I took the job and have been with the company 5 years now. As with any startup, it’s had its ups and downs, but overall it was a good decision for me and I have no regrets. And I owe it all to HN. Thank you HN!

I read it for the first time last year and found most of it still very relevant. And there’s an updated version with a chapter on http/2. I’d love to see an http/3 chapter added.
