My impression was I2C is quite prone to interference too?

Funny I am also using a Plasma from around that time (Samsung one but hopefully too dumb to spy). I guess the problem is that they'll keep turning the screws, in the same way it gets harder and harder to use Windows and Office without an account and internet connection.

As a result I'm not upgrading my TV anytime soon, and when I do, I hope to find a dumb one.

I don't understand either, not only are there open source tools available for scanning, but there are also colour-calibration slides which can be purchased. They are a known exposure/colour profile, allowing you to correct for your particular type of film and scanner properties, essentially calibrating conversion of raw negative to a correctly balanced positive image.

UK road signs won for me. Something about the type-face, colours and design.

Non-destructive filter layers caught my eye, and has been something I've missed since moving off Windows/Photoshop to Linux. Looking around it seems like they introduced this in V3, which is great to see.

Should be made into a motion picture I think.

I remember being there and chatting to the engineer who was trying to keep the machine running. As I talked to him, Colossus crashed. It was apparently a full-time job maintaining all the mercury tubes at the correct temperature so that the memory continued to function properly...

A cigarette to doing nothing, is like a dog to walking pointlessly.

> But AI grew up in universities until it transpired that sufficient capital could only be found in the private sector.

One way of looking at it. Another is that AI research progressed within universities, but it was only until recently that the private sector saw the profit potential when combined with modern CPU/GPU technology.

You could argue we're saying the same thing, but I think these angles are different. An academic research programme would not have spent billions on a datacentre to provide AI for free to the general public, for example.

Could have an office Minecraft world with a seminar room instead of Teams?

> decent build materials (ive got a thinpad and the platic build is just terrible. The screen bends when pulling it to open the laptop).

Thinkpads don't show off their build materials like Apple does. I've had several over the years, variously made of magnesium alloy and carbon fibre.

Screen bending is not a great metric of 'decent build'. My Thinkpads have suffered people stepping on them, being dropped etc, and I think the lid flexibility is partly why it has survived all this time - they often use carbon fibre on the back of the screen.

Loved my N900 also, it was peak phone for me.

But more importantly, we need an alternative to two big tech companies who are cranking the enshittification dial right up while also remaining under a particular country's laws.
