Is it really? The author of code owns that code. It's not like the workers using the factory (the programmers using the languages) owns it, they are just licensed to use it way more freely than it the owner did not give any freedoms.

In a communist society then the governemt would take ownership of all code (of factories). That's not Stallmans idea.

Saying that 'socialism == sharing' is too simple.

Your workflow may be good, I don't mean to judge that.

But is not the rails way to be in the shell, rails console and editor at all times? Instead of trying things out in the browser you have automated testing doing that for you?

No, but are they really as fun as one thinks? I mean, theyre cool because theyre small, but other than that it's nothing I could not do with any other computer. That is, run debian.

Or maybe I just don't get the fun of them?

Imagine when powerful bitcoin-hashing equipment becomes something for the masses. Crackers will have a jolly time with ol' mining rigs!

How could we not think about this? It's genius!

How is it done? Does your buddy use X, mac or where in the stack is the hack?

It has. But there is still the ol' quirks. I had problems with sounds on ubuntu on my ThinkPad. I had to install XFCE for it to play nice with 2 monitors (since the gpu in the old laptop is kind of sucky). But Macosx has even worse compability, so if you buy computer parts that are knows to play nice with linux you'll have a swell time :).

Also, when you start playing with tiling window managers you'll be glad you don't have a mac.
