I was working for a large bank and it was all windows, including production. We used to run WebSphere Application Server on Windows. I was looking for a dev server to run unit tests on, including integration tests which required an actual WebSphere instance. The infrastructure team said they had “a box” going spare and it turned out to be IA64 on Windows.
If my memory serves me correctly WebSphere only ran on windows for IA-64 up to 6 and we were running on 7.
I had to do a bit of hacking but I did manage to get it working using the dlls from the 6 version. It was fine for running integration tests and a pretty fast box considering.
Here are the docs. https://code.claude.com/docs/en/channels - actually I couldn’t even get this going myself so I asked Claude to do it (meta) and it did, I also had it set this up with a launcher and it all starts up automatically just like openclaw.
I switched OpenClaw to MiniMax 2.7. This combined with Claude over telegram does enough for me.
OpenClaw used to burn through all my Claude usage anyway.
I don’t know why this is so controversial it’s just a tool, you should learn to use it otherwise as the author of this post said you will get left behind but don’t cut yourself on the new tool (lots of people are doing this).
I personally love it because it allows me to create personal tools on the side that I just wouldn’t have had time for in the past. The quality doesn’t matter so much for my personal projects and I am so much more effective with the additional tools I’m able to create.
You spend most of your time with customers and so you just kind of navigate their politics without actually involving yourself.
The money can be better so it’s a better deal and you’re mostly shut out from the politics of the organisation you work for anyway.
Agreed!!
I would have loved something better but sometimes you just have to make do.
WebSphere was 99% Java (except for a few pesky dlls) and I never saw any oddities, it worked the same as it did on the old x86 VM I had which was woefully under spec. Our entire software platform was on WebSphere.
It really was a meaty box, which was a huge help because the tests originally (before IA64 box) used to take all night to run.
