Same name. You don't want me near a musical instrument.

Found this to be a lovely portrait of Patrick Stewart, worth reading.

Oh really? A libertarian rag like the Oregon Catalyst is against banning something? Imagine that...

Well, by definition, an unsuccessful -ism has already been shut off.

Just scored a 1992 RB-1 earlier this year. Had to order some parts to restore it to factory-correct, but it'll be rebuilt this weekend. Great, great bikes. Lusted after one for a long time.

I do too -- on the road, I've migrated over to SRAM, but my hardtail MTB still runs a mix of SLX/XT/XTR. When I buy a new MTB next year, I may or may not stick with Shimano. We'll see.

1x11 is a fairly recent thing. Came out in the last ~8 years, really. I was hesitant about going 1x, but did on my gravel bike (1x12) and it's a nice way to cut complexity, weight, and improve maintainability. That's not to say the era of the front derailleur is over -- I think they've still got their place on road bikes.

Chiang's stuff is fantastic. I'd love to live in a timeline where he writes novels instead of just short stories, but I'll take what I can get. (Big fan of Arrival, too -- even hit the GitHub repo of all the glyphs and got one tattooed.)

Yeah, I have about 5000 of them in the to-read pile. I think I'm suffering from choice paralysis right now, which was why I posted this in the first place.

Poor Charlie's Almanack is sitting in that pile somewhere. I might have to pick it up soon. And speaking of literary, maybe I should get back to that. I try to read 1-2 titles per year in that vein. Camus, maybe?

I can see where Dungeon Crawler could go that way -- I just did the newest Bobiverse book on Audible, and it's just so goddamned repetitive. I'm not sure I can slog through another one. I feel like Dungeon Crawler is doing a really good job of setting up and laying the groundwork for more _meaningful_ conflict in future books. But I'm only on Book 3, so who knows? Ask me again 2 books from now.

I'm not sure how to best/politely say "duh", but that's where my brain went. This is just a re-hash of the thing about American libertarians seeming to think like cats: "if I need it, there will be someone who brings it to me."
