OpenAI is already a "math research" company

Computer science has been a subset of math since the field was established decades before the first vacuum tube or transistor based machine was invented

"Computer" was coined to describe humans who did math all day

What we been doing the last few decades is fundamentally just algebra relative to values in RAM; LLMs only work because of math: https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.10668

def arbitraryFunctionName() { some math to achieve a physical state in memory } ...where arbitrary function name is some biz logic or use case

We're just pushing those arbitrary semantics from the code to the presentation layer; just need to ship a kernel that handles geometry transforms to draw to screen what looks like a text editor and a video game and label it via the GUI

Text systems are just outdated GUI that we had to start with due to hardware limitations back in the day.

Bold of you to predict future existence of functionality that already exists

Wrapper app startups designed to tune the tone of a model are all over; virtual romance partners, creative writers/editorial help...

We all started out with prompts like "you are an expert in X" before dumping them in agents which you pointed out already solves your problem

What you describe is already implemented in various ways

> So a mathematian isn't condemended to be one just because the universe was in certain configuration a few millenia ago.

Right ...on long enough timelines as I already wrote.

I studied applied physics; how various forms of information propagate through various physical mediums. Thanks for confirming what I observed experimentally in lab 31-ish years ago

On a small enough timeline over simple things like "piss in street zero fucks or find toilet?"

On long enough timelines involving too many variables; either other peoples waves vibrating through the economy or politics; all bets are off.

We tend to over estimate the future based on a lizard brain ability to estimate the next few moments; a handy survival tool when trying to determine if we recognize the noise we just heard behind a rock

Did you predict covid in 2020 from 1996? All human society stats are mutable and trend towards zero.

But Nostradamus and Hari Seldon type long range forecasting is fanatasy

Any mathematician that really believes that needs to take a physics class; they didn't even choose to exist.

They haven't had influence over their future since before they were born.

Prior to Republicans demanding the Post Office fund retirements in advance and various other hamstringing to other services US government was ridiculously efficient

They had to pass legislation to intentionally fuck the books to make them inefficient to fit their preferred narrative because government could be held accountable for inefficiency in ways private corps cannot.
