Ink chemistry and color accuracy are much more difficult than what amounts to a small glue gun and some motors. And 3D printers only achieved high reliability on some pain points like bed adherence recently. Imagine if 30-50% of document prints just failed unless you sprayed glue on every piece of paper, even if your printers and filament are all new.

This isn't as simple as a Disney monorail. There can be many tracks, multiple routes can share some segments of track, trains can go from one track to another, tracks can be stacked on top of each other on some bridges and go inside tunnels so GPS/GNSS is insufficient, the train in front of you can stop for emergency, etc. It's like the aeronautical collision issue, but the tracks are in charge of determining and transmitting position.

>but their software is often seen as holding them back. A successful open-source CUDA port/decomp could devastate the AI pecking order.

This hypothesis is pretty outdated after the past two years. Vulkan and ROCm are pretty good, and some users do buy R9700 PROs and 7900s for local inference. But the improvement didn't result in everyone trading in their 5080s for 9070s or 7900s because, as it turns out, the hardware isn't actually much better with equal software.

No, because I can sell the games.

On the other hand, the Orange Box I bought from 2007 cannot be transferred in any way, even though the disc is in my hand and my account is in good standing. I think you guys have your priorities messed up.

They are tradeable and resellable which is a very important property for poorer gamers instead of rich collectors like us.

Edit: Switch 2 is also biggest proponent of SD Express. Any supporter of SD cards coming back to phones and other devices should appreciate the stance taken here. Nintendo could've gone the Google/Apple route and just sold 512GB and 1TB models. Instead this effort, like Sony's Xperia phones, are completely unrecognized.

In LA they make very subtle traffic infractions. For example, turning right onto the left lane of a two-lane road. But a third of human drivers probably don't know that it's not allowed and another third intentionally violate it.

That was inspired by the PS3 signing key PRNG. Sony Computer Entertainment, you have been redeemed.

As a sewist, when I sew things, it's also because the mass market doesn't make the exact thing I want. The software mass markets, both proprietary and open source ones, has also failed many consumers. The developers in Adobe tells me to pay $20/mo for PS, while the developers in GIMP takes 20 years to implement proper text outline. What is the point of enjoying how the software is made if people don't get to use it for what they want?

I think a significant percentage of puzzle game players, including me, are just predisposed to see Sokoban games as exhausting. The Witness (and Taiji) has a fairly limited search space so it can't be exhausting, but some Sokobans can involve running around the board for a dozen laps. It's the Rubik's Cube of puzzle games. I blame Stephen's Sausage Roll.

What a bizarre swipe. Countries don't necessarily post specific statistics like this so quickly and 2 years behind is actually pretty fast. And even though it took them 4-5 months to see the OECD numbers, Nikkei and Yomiuri seem to be the only two English language outfits reporting on this. They actually posted at around the same time many Chinese language outfits noticed.

For a long time I've avoided anthropomorphizing agents like this, but it really is hard to ignore the effectiveness of using them with human processes and systems. Are the processes (standup, sprint, etc.) effective because they are using our languages? Or are the processes just universally good?

The Other OS section should include TempleOS.

Maybe this is a minor issue, but it seems like different providers on OpenRouter etc. have different quant settings. I imagine that that affects the perception of the model quite a bit.

Can't speak for all of the projects, but tz is intentionally public domain.

The medium, as a place of social and political discussion, has a fundamental flaw in favoring people with more free time. Even if scoring doesn't exist, nothing stops people from just submitting more posts and comments.

We can take a field trip back to Fark to observe a forum that has always kept chronological sorting as its defaults. I peer in every now and then, and it doesn't seem like the discussions are any less fraught or the people are happier.
