When I tried to cultivate a field, it said it would say it was already cultivated. If I tried to roller it, it would say it needed cultivating first.

There seems to be some agreement that the hostile attitudes towards the bulk of its own users killed SO before AI got the chance. I'm inclined to agree at least in part.

Which begs a more interesting question, perhaps; if a SO was recreated in a more forgiving fashion today, would it stance a chance competing against AI?

I've got over 20 years experience, led teams, worked in interesting and highly technical places. I've never not been offered a job I've applied for before, barely noticed the GFC.

I'm now a couple of years and about 1000 applications deep for which I've interviewed only with two companies (Xero and Canonical). No offers. This isn't like it was. And I'm not alone.

I don't know what the situation in the US is like, it's probably relatively well insulated. Normally, I'd expect the middle-of-the-road to stick, and the shining stars to twist, take the money and find something else in short order.

But across Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere, it's an absolute bunfight to get a new role in software at the moment. Thousands, even tens of thousands of applicants for every role on LinkedIn, in relatively short order. Invariably, if the role exists, it's too many for them to sanely process. Not just desperate applicants but qualified ones that meet the spec comfortably.

If that's coming to the US eventually, there will be lots more layoffs to come and nowhere else to jump to.

Yes, but I doubt we'd done any behaviour correction at six months. And they have an older brother who doesn't have ADHD.

I really detest the way surveillance seems to just increase without any democratic mandate.

Likewise, but also I've got boy-girl twins. They're 9 now, but we're pretty sure we could tell he had ADHD at six months old (on a waiting list to see if he's autistic too). She's never shown any sign of either. As twins, they've been raised together, I can't think that he suffered any more trauma than she did.

I've tailored t-shirts before I discovered a brand called 2tall which fits well enough.

I wore suits for the first 30 years of my life, but I can't stand them and they're terrible in warmer climates, I'm never wearing shorts with a suit. And that's part of it beyond the suitability (pun intended); there are unsaid overtones about wearing a suit that imply formality, status, etc. that I just do not want in my life.

> So, I admit that I'm finally getting into this "let Claude help you write code" stuff, and I'm enjoying it a bit for the stuff I, honestly, just don't want to write; but ... I still read it. I still review it. I still look at the code like I'm peer-reviewing it and go, "Uh ... I don't like this area at all. That's going to be really hard to debug at 3am" and so on.

I used to. I've stopped in recent months, only because I just can't keep up with the pace it's churning out the code. If I was to read it, it would take multiples longer to develop anything, maybe into orders of magnitude longer. Occasionally I'll dip in just to get a sense of things, especially if it's struggling with something, or at the opposite end, if it's completely trivial. But I'm hardly reading anything now.

I'm 6'5 and a jobless software dev. If anyone has a CEO role going spare, let me know, I'll have a crack at it.

I think the $34/GB figure might be inclusive of VAT and the $4560 not, which would be $28.5 otherwise. Not sure.

I think it's appeared everywhere all at once. It's not the UK alone, or the US.

Still has a long way to go to catch us up on the other side of the pond.
