Open source doesn't mean "anyone can use the source code commercially". Open weights similarly doesn't mean the weights can be used for anything. It just means the weights are open for anyone to download and inspect.

China's behavior makes sense if they consider both Russia and Ukraine (the latter being a proxy for the west) to be enemies of some sort. Let your enemies fight each other and waste resources while you yourself profit.

The same can be said about the US <> EU/Russia in this conflict. Why bother helping Ukraine/Europe win the war if you consider them at least partly hostile? Better to let them fight your own enemy (Russia) and trade with both sides to your own advantage.

Or they got lucky, or they took the capital from others by force or stole it.

The EU is not a fiscal union. It is also not yet a single capital market.

Adyen and PayPal aren’t far off. Certainly close (~1.6T). That said, the gap is growing, stripe is growing faster.

You may think it's obvious, but what about users who cannot read code? Even better if you also have the LLM automatically write tests for this code, with comments of its own! Now whenever you want to change something, the LLM needs to update it in 4 separate places, reducing the risk of making mistakes because it has to quadruple-check its edits. Of course that means you spend a bit more on tokens, but you have a much higher chance of your PRs getting accepted because it looks like you went the extra mile.

In the 1800s most families only had a single provider, so this percentage may have been higher back then than it is now.

A 36% success rate on screwing in a light bulb means there's probably something to LeCunn's take that VLM/VLA models aren't going to be the thing powering tomorrow's robots, but only time will tell.

Twitter is the “hype machine”. It’s basically the advertising arm disguised as a social media company.

At SpaceX’s valuation, even a 1-2% increase in share price due to some astroturfing on the platform they themselves own basically pays back the cost of acquiring twitter.

We're also shareholders in all other publicly traded stocks (assuming you're referring to pension schemes etc), which means competition in the AI model market is better than a few winners making everyone paying through their nose for access. Even better, open weights models which cannot be disabled on a whim means the entire world economy can benefit.

6USD per year adds about 0.016USD per day. Definitely more, still pretty cheap.

The obvious response is the realization that spending trillions on training LLMs is not a viable business model if they can be distilled for a much lower cost.

Especially if thinking is hidden now. No way to know if the model plotted against you until it’s too late.

The main reason for adding a daily puzzle (or really the seeded RNG) is that part of the game loop is retrying the same seed to find the best lines for that map. Since all pieces are deterministic, we've found it fun to retry the same map to see if a different line works better. It also adds a competitive/multiplayer element to the game, rather than it just being for single player use.

I think both "play styles" make sense, we've just found it more fun to share with friends this way!
