I was getting $150/hour. I charged by the hour.
I live in Nashua, NH. I think location really effects what you can charge.
Over the 4+ years I worked as contractor, among things I worked on:
- Radar displays/GUI (solo, in person, job shop).
- Laser scanning (solo).
- Medical scanning/GUI - the computer vision part (solo)
- Computer vision for protecting operators (solo, job shop).
To get work, I talked to former employers (direct) and sometimes the indirect kind (through a job shop).
When the wife tells me there is a spider in the shower I reply: "Oh, you mean Steve?"
Spiders eat the mosquitos so that's plus.
I can't take a book and make myself learn ("push"). Instead, I find a project I'm interested in and let it "pull" me in. Sort of the difference between studying a French book ("push") and actually going to live in France ("pull") with French people. You still bring the book of course.
(Professional coder since 1987.)
Here are a couple of books on them I liked:
"The Sprite: The Story of a Red Fox" https://www.amazon.com/Sprite-Story-Red-Fox/dp/B001JL4JWY
"Red fox: The Catlike Canine" https://www.amazon.com/Red-fox-Catlike-Canine-Smithsonian/dp...
As an American, I had to converted the number to mm and the divided it by 25.4 and again by 12. I figured I save somebody else the trouble.
(I upvoted you.)
- RS485 project, kinda secret...
- machine vision: Tracking rock climbers at an indoor gym
- machine vision: measure medical test strips for in office test
- a data logging/analysis application for laser welding (WPF/C#)
- machine vision project for analyzing golf ball velocity and spin as they leave the club (OpenCv/C++/3D math)
- display graphics for a radar system (OpenGL shader, C++)
- I've spent a few years working on windows/WPF/C#/C++/machine vision applications for aiming lasers [muu hah, hahha!].
Now that I’m retired, I spend my time dying from a brain tumor and being happy.
