At our company hackathon I led a team focused on this issue. What we landed on is in the future looking at code diffs is going to continue to go down. AI can write the code and AI can review the code and we are going to see bug rates go down at a "tactics" level.

What matters are the high level decisions in the code such as "Deleting an account removes the row for good", "Email becomes the user’s permanent ID", etc.

We imagined a completely new concept for code reviews where you review the decisions not the code diffs. Also if you want to review the code it is grouped by concept not by random file diffs.

This is coming from someone that likes manually coding btw but our PR size and velocity is increasing too fast to meaningfully review all the diffs forever.

To be fair the driving distance was in km, not freedom units!

A bunch of SWEs at my work use it as their primary model.

We have Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor with essentially no cap on spend (top guy is spending over 10K a month on AI at API prices), and he hasn't had his hand slapped.

So it's not like they are using it purely because it's cheaper.

I think people like to use it for its speaking style, pretty solid performance, and its speed.

I work at a smaller tech company (<300 people), and my friend showed me everyone's spending.

Our top user is at 10k a month, but the next highest is $2,000.

I would say the average is around $1,000-$1,500 for a developer.

We have completely unrestricted access to Claude, Codex, and Cursor.

Funny enough, the guy spending 10k is not even a dev by trade but an SME in what we work on that just vibe codes apps and somehow has not been cut off yet lol.

I have a single thread of GPT 5.5 medium running basically all work hours and I am around $1,500 a month in spend on Enterprise pricing.

Maybe I missed it in the article but it doesn't seem to mention that you deduct mortgage interest on your taxes in the US?

This isn't something you get renting and it effectively lowers your monthly payment.

Facts, I have built something myself doing this (granted I am a software eng) and pretty much anyone with claude code / codex could do it in a couple hours and you can tailor it to your exact workflow.

The apps that do this are an easy money grab though, I have a seen some total trash ones that still rank high on IOS store because people still want this so I am sure they will get some subs.
