I talk to machines in Python, Javascript and binary. I talk to humans in French, English, Spanish (mainly). Always looking for a good balance between these machine and human interactions.

Looking for new opportunities in 2026 :)

For 2025 the grid carbon intensity in Texas was 363gCO2eq/kWh, while it was 22gCO2eq/kWh in Sweden, so 16,5x more in Texas. Right now it's 427 in Texas vs. 50 in Finland ie. 8,54x more, like in the article (yes I looked the wrong country at first).

The reason is half of Texas electricity production is still fossil fuels (gas & coal) while mostly hydro, nuclear and wind in Sweden. So it's not really about ai, the models or the hardware. Fossil fuels make CO2, that's it.

On design we have aesthetics but also legibility and usability.

For legibility: the first examples are bad because they fail to easily communicate what/when/where/details in a couple seconds, mainly because the profusion of visual clutter obfuscates the message. The latter examples fare much better on that regard.

Usability is a constraint maybe more applicable to websites like the discussion I saw the other day on the design of claude-written pages (all look the same, feels ok but good UX probably lacking).

No, you would be cooked, but I had a hunch that obviously people already tried to see how long you could stay inside and yes there was a competition in Finland exactly for this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Sauna_Championships#2010...

I said "was" because 2010 was, in fact, the last edition of the event:

> On 7 August 2010, two competitors were removed from the sauna and brought to the hospital in critical condition after six minutes of 110 °C (230 °F) heat

Whole years! You'll are so lucky! The reincarnation roulette gave me this: 49 BCE, he lived 1 month, dying of dysentery. I guess I'll stop complaining about my life then...

I also heard the same thing, hence my surprise, but I guess I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a company simultaneously being paid for installing bloatware and also charging the customer for it...

Apart from the OS I got reimbursed for 4 or 5 additional items between 6 to 15€ each as far as I can remember, I don't have the details as she only told me on the phone and have no record of it. The original invoice had the following list (although it seemed different from the itemized price list that customer service had access to):

Camera : Software for Integrated Camera (Only for standard Base )
  Windows Live
Optical Software : PowerDVD Software for Vista Home Premium and Ultimate, WIN7 Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate
  Software Driver : Latitude E6420 Diagnostics & Drivers 1 S
  Operating System : French Genuine Windows 7 SP1 Professional (64Bit OS) 1 S
  OS Media : MUI Windows 7 SP1 Professional (64Bit OS) Resource DVD 1 S
  Software : Microsoft Office Starter 2010 1 S
Operating System Recovery Dell Backup and Recovery Manager for Windows 7 SP1 1 S
AntiVirus : Trend Micro Worry Free Business Service (15 Month subscription)Software MUI
I sure as hell did not order extra antivirus or other kind of software but I guess it's possible there was some "Office and 15-month antivirus included" marketing offer that turned out to to neither be free nor optional...

In 2011 I got a 143€ reimbursement from Dell for an E6420 laptop that I had bought for 910€.

Maybe I got lucky but I called the customer service, told the lady I did not agree with the Windows license terms, fully ready to argue my case and she just went "oh, ok, let me just edit a new invoice and wire you the money for Windows plus the Antivirus plus etc.".

Which was extra nice because I had no idea I was in fact charged for the bloatware, but I still got ~50€ for it on top of the OS license price.

This being 15 years ago it feels like a forever unsolved issue. My opinion remains the same, that a personal computer should not be tied to a specific OS. But now with smartphones the hardware/software (de)coupling situation seems even worse.

Seemed to me https://www.marinetraffic.com was the reference for tracking ships, and it's up.
