There are several public benchmarks for decision models where they don't top every single one. https://benchmarkheaven.com/jev-models/all

I guess their cheeky "Warning: AI Benchmarks, don't trust them" is their way out of that one.

So they held back a bunch of features because they knew they had basically no moat, and now they're trickling out a bit more functionality to try to convince people they are better than others and move fast? And using Apple advert slogans to show how cool they are?

> What does this cover - garbage collection, what else?

That's the fun part, it doesn't even cover garbage!

Jokes aside, property tax in the US typically go towards safety net funding for your community. So a lot to schools, public safety, roads/infrastructure, etc. There are definitely some places where garbage is covered in that, but a lot of places garbage collection is privatized in the US.

Sometimes hearing about how much it costs to cut down trees makes me want to quit my job. I think a lot of that is probably for liability insurance though? Both for worker injury risk and for risk of property damage. It will cost a lot to fix a house that has a tree fall through it. But also since those are market rates, it's still a very good idea to ensure they have legit insurance. You are usually SOL if they don't.

After asking it to schedule something, it prompted me to allow or block notifications, so sounds like this is just chatGPT scheduling push notifications? We'll see!

I am noting that this is a fairly dated article (Feb 15, 2023), but supabase does MFA to sign into their platform.

My team got really far using something called GlitchTip. It's compatible with the Sentry SDKs, but really cheap, so it felt like there were minimal consequences to switch if we ever had the need to. We only switched to Sentry cause our company was acquired and they already had a Sentry subscription going.

Former HackerRank Employee here, while I agree it seems like a very quick response, I just want to point out they have nowhere near 1000 employees. When I was there it was probably a quarter of that.

As a YC backed company, it seemed like almost everything on HackerNews was known about within the company when I was there.

I have a framework laptop (https://frame.work/) and really like it! I run Ubuntu right now, and do run into issues with fractional scaling, but I haven't seen any laptop properly address that on linux.

One downside is the battery isn't amazing. I usually get ~3-4 hours when doing development work and ~6-7 with light use.

How do you deal with people who don't adhere to the process? It's all fine and good to require people to write tests, but often I catch bugs in their test code too.

I was unfamiliar with the term JBOD, thanks for the laugh!

Unfortunately as a remote employee I find it harder to accomplish. I used to commute by bike 2-3 times a week, 11 miles each way, but now it has to be an intentional effort to leave the home which seems to be harder for me.
