Doing output is trivial compared to properly handling any type of free-form user input.

You build the app with the dev dependencies, so you need to trust them as well.

And nobody wants to take responsibility and maintain it either, not even now.

Excactly.

Close to where I live there are a couple of funny examples:

In one place the lights are red by default for everyone. Cars are detected from 100m or so away, so they barely need to slow down. Pedestrians need to press a button and usually wait for a while.

At another crossing the lights are green by default for the bigger road. A sideroad has car-detection that is ofter rather quick. Pedestrians and cyclists need to press a button and usually wait for a long time.

Just because you don't sit in a car it's ok to wait that much longer.

That's just fair - pedestrians aren't detected either

The post mentions cloud security.

We were actually discussing this one day at the office - have there been any serious security breaches at Google? Are they really just that good?

This seems to be better than the current Macbook Pros on almost every level - specs, ports, weight. Only the screen is worse.

Too bad nVidia graphics aren't supported on macOS - otherwise would have been the Macbook of many dreams.

E: looks like I had missed the latest Macbook update; the specs are not that different.

Almost everything runs just fine in Firefox.

Google software seems to be chrome-optimized, but it's usually only slightly slower on Firefox - it still works.

The most unexpected part was seeing "Gentoo Hardened" as a part of state-level official documentation.

The manufacturing process pretty much always involves humans.

Even with the bad parts the Macbook pro is still the most capable all-rounder available - it's durable, the build quality is excellent, the hardware is (apart from memory) as good as you can get in any portable laptop...

It's really sad that Lenovo for some reason refuses to make laptops that actually match the macbooks; they are either huge or lack a proper GPU. And others just aren't of comparable build quality in the first place.

The Arch linux wiki is one of the best maintained and up-to-date on hardware issues. It helps that Arch itself tries to ship only vanilla software: as few modifications as possible to the kernel, too, unlike the bigger distros.

Excellent source of information.
