I took a commuter train in NJ earlier this year and i was shocked at the windows. Seriously, every other train system in the world can pull off clean windows but not New Jersey? India? Clean windows. China? Clean windows... You can't blame pollution... you can't blame regulation because they've got tons of that in Norway and Japan and they're able to keep their windows clean.

Did they ever figure out how to run nix on top of MacOS? When I see a project uses Nix I know the creators aren't serious.

It's kind of like seeing something is written in Lisp or Scheme... somebody decided that functional systems and running code aren't worth it. Instead they'll build a system which is perfect in all ways in theory but nobody can or will ever use.

There needs to be massive reform in the way infrastructure is built in the US yet nobody is even proposing a fix.

Use Nix on a Mac they say, it’s easy. Just follow this 20 page long blog post and then spend every day fighting against how the OS wants to work.

I’ve tried Nix on a Mac half a dozen times. It always ends with frustration.

Homebrew works amazingly if you actually want to be on a Mac. If you HATE everything about MacOS and Apple and someone forced you to use a Mac, then use Docker and Nix inside of that.

Nix should never be used on a Mac. It is a philosophical disaster. Don’t do it. Delete the repos and the world will be better off.

The new Threads app is clearly not an update of their dead photo focused messaging app. I doubt any code was reused at all.

This is terrible anti-social advice. Getting projects to work is about organizing people to work together. Unless your DJB, software is a team sport. If it is a one person project it will fail.

Now when somebody offers to help, be welcoming because it's amazing. But also remember that most of the time their desire to help won't translate in to something useful. That's ok, eventually people will show up who are helpful. Keep being open.

Also, what the hell is somebody doing making a social network if they don't like people.... WTF!?

Because OAuth 2.0 sucks and got all bloated. The 1.0 version worked great for everybody but super big companies like google and facebook. But then big companies came in and made it a bloated standard that doesn't meet the needs of most users.

People pirate streams of soccer matches because it's nearly impossible to pay for legally. The matches for a single team or league are spread out amongst a ton of different streaming providers. Sometimes there is no paid option at all because of region blocking and complicated deals.

I happily pay Apple for MLS matches because there was no reliable way to get them here in New Zealand. It is still stupid because Apple has no idea what they're doing, the announcers are terrible, the audio levels all over the place, random silence, it gets loud, then random cutting between shots... At least it streams well.

But for other leagues? It is cheaper to go buy a ticket to watch the Wellington Phoenix at the stadium than it is to pay for streaming! Even then I can only find some matches.

What about other leagues? I follow Uruguayan soccer... good luck finding a place I could even pay for that which licenses the content in New Zealand.

My only hope is that this post about how to block pirate streaming will help the pirates evade being blocked.
