> You won't be able to wash your clothes when you feel like

Curious what was actually said. I can imagine some smarter pricing incentives being put in place to move demand around. If so, you should know that versions of that have been happening for decades.

> HN: A site full of bold futurists where it's easier to imagine the end of the humanity than the end of capitalism.

That's an underrated comment! Totally agree. So so much of discussion on this topic sort of assumes business as usual (both literally and figuratively) and that AI quickly diffuses through the economy, sucking up all economically useful activity, with humans falling by the wayside as inevitable collateral damage.

There's a failure of imagination taking place here that there's no other outcome. Capitalism is an evolved solution to how human community works, but is not inevitable.

I'm in a similar boat :D I love Borges and Chiang has some great short stories. I'd love hear if you know other authors that are similar?

I don't think this is any less insulting.

I was hoping before opening the article this might be feedback from candidate --> interviewer. Quite a few interviews I've been the candidate have been negative experiences that put me off the job entirely. I think it's often forgotten that interviews are (or should be) two-way exchanges, not just a hazing of would-be employees.

I find Tao's writing on this very helpful, particularly because a lot of the ideas generalise to most knowledge work. It is darkly fortunate that some of the smartest and most articulate people on the planet are affected by the AI race - it gives me a little hope that alignment and control can be solved.

Again - true now, but not certain to be so in the near future - which (I speculate) is part of the investment case for mistral.

I'd be curious as to how correlated development on these frameworks (ai or otherwise) is correlated with the market cycle. It seems during bull runs would be traders think they have some edge - whereas they're probably all just buying the trend.

That's true now, but given the strategic importance of AI to nation states and the fractious relationship many have with China, I wouldn't expect the eagerness to use Chinese AI to continue indefinitely.

That may be true, but there's a non zero chance that frontier AI becomes a controlled export, and that 'local' production becomes a prudent play.

What do you think it might take to precipitate collective action in this case?
