+10000000. I totally agree with you. But, I don't know what to do about it. We've tried public and private schools, but I think a lot of the problem is our culture. Hard work and studying are not rewarded; group mind-think and standardization have taken the place of a good combination of rote memory learning and essay writing/debating.

What if we were to establish schools the same way they existed in the 1800s with the same rigor? Small, mixed classes, all in a single room, hopefully taught by the very well-educated.

I'm critical of atheism, because it is itself a religious belief and those that believe and evangelize it refuse to recognize it as a religion in and of itself.

I live in the U.S. where the country was built by those that wanted freedom of religion.

Neat examples, but Phaser is pretty choppy in FF 27/OS X and my mac is recent.

We could replace HN with a mailing list also, but I'm not sure that would solve anything, would it? HN is about discussion, and the inability to comment makes it spam, rather than a topic.

It would be nice if they had used the money they put into this building towards a philanthropic goal instead.

Say what you will about Bill Gates, but he has used much of his and Warren Buffett's money for truly great things.

I think this would get more traction if you used the subject of the post, "Counterforce: 5 Reasons to Fight Google", rather than "Counterforce just wrote a guest post on my site".

Agree with this post, but would go further: if someone feels that they are not contributing in a way commensurate with what they think they should be able to contribute, then the reason- whether they are bored or not, and it is their fault, or someone else's, or no one's fault- they will be unhappy. Challenging is not as important as fulfilling.

Most new cars will be electric in 10 years. Then instead of oil, coal or nuclear (power plants) will be the primary power source and ethanol for automobile fuel will be a minor issue.

Right on. To add to this, early stage terraforming is in the immediate rather than long-term plan for Mars. As soon as we start producing CO2 on Mars, we're on our way.

I'm not against colonizing space itself, but early seagoing explorers didn't attempt to colonize the ocean. We need to establish ourselves in environments that allow easy production of oxygen, water, and food.

In the end, it is about money. It takes a lot of money to get setup on Mars, but after it is setup, it is a HUGE resource, which means much, much more money. The moon could also be a huge resource, but it is expensive to colonize because it can't hold atmosphere easily. Colonizing space itself without mining a resource in a way that eventually will pay off the initial investment is useless and a drain on our society.

Sorry late on the reply. I didn't mix it up. I was commenting that in my past recent experience, upgrading resulted in a slower system. I was just warning others not to do that. I'm not upgrading to 14.04 because I don't want a longer boot.
