Wouldn’t that necessarily mean that if the US keeps making enemies of allies, then the premium required for these countries to give US money would be higher? Sure, I’ll lend you some, but I don’t trust you that much, you’ll have to pay me more.

Github Actions runner can be self-hosted as well! Microsoft tried to curb it for a while by making self-hosted runner minutes paid as well, but quickly walked that back.

Do note that Github Actions have been the target of like 50 different attacks and I would not combine publicly hosted code with your own runners, as without proper sandboxing it can lead to anybody executing any code on your machine just by opening a PR (might have been fixed since last I heard, but the general vibe stands).

As someone working in aerospace, orbital data centres are almost certainly impossible or very impractical, at least at the scale being sold by the AI salesmen.

What would they be cheaper on? Solar panels are a little bit more effective and they will have a 24/7 coverage if placed in the correct orbit.

However, they would be much harder to cool (space is cold, yes, but heat transfer in vacuum does not work easily and most large structures, such as ISS, require dedicated cooling radiators that take up a large amount of space.) The launch costs would be still very high, maintenance impractical and the large, large surface area of solar panels and radiators would just be primed for being struck by debris.

What orbital data centres are though, is a good dream to sell, a fine way to dismiss environmental concerns of data centres on the ground - “We’re soon going to start putting them in space, but just for now we have to build them on earth. Please approve our requests.”

That’s a really good article, thank you for sharing. Has anything in the field changed since 2019, or is the situation still roughly the same?

Couldn’t the dreaming be done even without betting? This feels like an excuse to me to be completely honest.

I’ve personally had thoughts about what I would do if I were millionaire, and given the amount of stories of people coming into a large sums of money and their life getting significantly worse, I’d prefer to actually not win it.

This might be completely wrong, since my understanding is based very much off of Truck Simulator games, but isn’t one of the reasons aerodynamics as well? The US is huge, and trips can take several days at high speeds, so aerodynamic improvements can save quite a bit of money, whereas EU is smaller, the trucks do not go at large speeds for as long and have to navigate tiny city streets, thus being more compact is an advantage there.

Maybe try running your services in docker, I don't know how difficult that would be to implement for you, but if you run it in containers you can get it to start up after an outage pretty reliably.

"OpenAI’s models are trained to not replicate works for consumption by the public. Instead, they learn from the works and extract patterns, linguistic structures, and contextual insights," OpenAI claimed. "This means our AI model training aligns with the core objectives of copyright and the fair use doctrine, using existing works to create something wholly new and different without eroding the commercial value of those existing works."

What do you think? Do they have a point and is their alleged law-breaking simply for the greater good of pushing civilization forward, or is this just a desparate comment of someone who based their business on illegal material?

So many tragic plane incidents lately. Is there any reason for this increased occurence, or is it actually within normal margins?
