Thanks for this. I’m going to send it on our #general on Slack so people might understand when I say I’m a “bit” busy at the moment…

Nice project but I am a bit curious about the 31x performance gain over Redis. Antirez has always been an optimisation guru for a lot of us and benching as high as 31x on simple pipeline SET seems absurd (in the good sense of the term here). I can see in the generated README that the start script is using NUMA settask to pin down the number of cores but running 46 redis instances under the pretence that Redis is mono-threaded is actually not reflecting a correct picture here. Yes the command execution loop is mono-threaded but Redis uses multi-threading on io for example. Therefore, the test would be biased as the thread pool would become completely starved. A simple way to look into this would be to dump the CPU wait ops in the benchmark as well to truly understand what's justifying the 31x performance gain.

Absolutely, recursive self-improvement of cutting edge models on limited hardware do not hit something called compute asymmetry, what was I thinking about?

My point is that, you could have an army of TVs, Pi’s, IoT it won’t do much on training or self-improvement no. And that’s purely from a resource standpoint, don’t even get me started on the latency issues

This article says absolutely nothing and it’s a bit grotesque in its attempt to generate fear into uneducated readers.

Sharing a model across TV boxes as a PoC? Brilliant idea, I cannot wait for my Raspberry Pis array to be running at full CPU and RAM and get to observe, patiently, as the AI malware slowly types “c…u…r…l…”

Thanks to the author for this, I definitely find those observations interesting.

In defense to the UK gov services website used as examples here. I think it is one of the most efficient website I’ve ever used. Absolutely superb on mobile/desktop, navigation and UX is clear and to the point. Accessibility is also top notch and I often refer to that website as the perfect example for clean product outcomes during product brainstorms.

One great thing about setting up your own server is to do it faster each time. Deployment, hardening, running services.

Get used to your terminal, use SSH, understand how firewalls work and run a couple of services such as nginx, fail2ban etc.

Once you have a hand of it try to do it using Ansible. It will be a valuable skill if you decide to provision, for example, a swarm of servers for a cluster. And it will give you reproducibility and a trail of steps that you will ensure get executed for each server you deploy.

I don't think so, we used a mortgage broker for ours and only 2 and 5 years fixed rates @ ±2.3% were offered in September 2021

Update:

We recovered our OVH sandbox env (yay) but prod is still very down, guess they are rolling back DC by DC

Our whole OVH infra is down, composed of OVH baremetal + SoYouStart an OVH sister company.

http://travaux.ovh.net/

is also down which is their WIP tasks dashboard, having worked there I can tell that something definitely went very very wrong
