I'm here looking for other telenet (not telnet) oldheads, finding nobody.

Yes? The claim: the Polish border is easy. My counterclaim: no it is not.

This is completely counter to my recent-ish experience. Over the last two years I've entered Poland... 14 times? and over time, the experience has gotten more intrusive.

Disclaimer: I left Microsoft in 2007. At that time he had several years of posts in an internal queue that you could comment on.

I've told this story so many times I've worn the corners off it. BT was giving a presentation to MSN WAN OPS about the new datacenter buildout in London for us. They kept going on and on about physical security, man traps, and that our fiber left the building on each side and didn't get close to each other for so many km away.

BT guy ends that part of the presentation with "the IRA will really have to get shit together to take you off the net"

This was during the troubles. Same planet, different world.

I eat the whole orange, grapefruit, lemon or lime.

I like the bitter to offset the sweetness.

I did something similar for a US tourist who was making me ashamed of being a US tourist. Got on a boat tour, bar is cash only, he only has dollars. I traded him something like $100 worth of yen, I told him the exchange rate, and that he was paying above it. He didn't care, he just wanted to buy some drinks

This is the feature I’ve missed most from Gerrit. Thank you

buy any dongle that sells for under $100 on amazon. they all have the same mac, and come with 'bespoke' apps to let you do things to your car. those apps are all thin wrappers on code widely shared; they use the MAC of the dongle as the keystone for ID.

Short story: buy one cheap dongle on Amazon, dump the MAC (00:11:22:AA:BB:CC IIRC; it's been 15 years since I cared) and you have auth to all of the apps everywhere.

Reminder: the Bluetooth logo comes, mostly, from self-certification.

When I cared, I found out that a lot of OBD-II dongles shipped with the same MAC, which gave you access to everything on a bunch of websites.

You can curse the storm, but the wind will come.

Howdy! maybe? I was off and on at WMHD as a reprobate from a local high school. I never had the GPA to get in to Rose Hulman; even as a local.

Jim Grey and I knew all the same people at WMHD yet somehow never ran into each other. I was an annoying high school student. Ron Dippold (he ran usenet votes for a long time) was there, among others.

When I was digging through old VHS tapes, I digitized a couple TV spots and put them on youtube; passing them along to Jim.

Best advice I got when I got to San Jose was from an old recruiter - she must have been 30!

She said the Bay Area is big, but the Silicon Valley is small.

I think about her advice a lot.

The radio world is even smaller. I tried out at WZZQ when I was in high school, but didn't make the cut.
