> I don’t track the finances just what the tools are doing.

Then you have absolutely no idea what is going on. It has exactly zero to do with what AI can do, and everything to do with how the companies are being run. The technology will not die, but the AI bubble will pop, regardless of what Claude can do.

As much as I dislike AI, having worked on Cisco gear for years, I can't imagine AI can put out a worse product. If the re-write is full of bugs and security holes and static SSH keys, then it has not changed at all.

This. I don't want some huge "business productivity suite", or whatever other crap they've been building lately. I paid initially Proton for secure email that wasn't being mined for adds. Now they have chatbots and who knows what else in the works, and are simply trying to chase revenue. Pass.

I no longer trust Proton after reading this. Chen seems like he has lost what the entire point of Protonmail was supposed to be, and now wants to become one of the Big Tech companies they were built to be an alternative to. He also seems like a two-faced bully.

Email (and VPN, password manager, etc.) is far too sensitive to go as all-in as they want to do on AI. I've been using Tuta in parallel with Proton, and I will probably migrate over completely soon

What does that have to do with anything? And still, so what?

Do the rich hate him because he exploits the working class? Because they think the way he got rich is obscene? No! It's because he won't shut up, and says the quiet parts out loud. They only hate his personality. You would know if they hated his policies, which they don't, because he'd be out on his senile ass before you could say dementia.

>It’s not and it’s absolutely ahistoric to make this claim. (Not disputing that it’s a popular view in some circles.)

So, there has only ever been one type of slavery, and all slaves had the exact same set of restrictions? Yeah, nah, not with you on that.

And just because a wage slave can switch from McDonalds to Taco Bell, does not make them any less slaves.

You seem very tied to a very specific conception of slavery that only matches African-American slaves in the US. There is far more to it; it's about freedom. And if you think being poor your whole life, being allowed to switch fast food joints, never getting ahead and never having a chance to get ahead, never having any land because it's all already owned, that all that is freedom, well, you clearly have a different conception of freedom than I do, and I would never want to be subjected to yours.

Capitalism is really good at convincing people that this is the only way things can be, and freedom is the ability to sell your body and time. I reject that completely.

Cool story bro. I assume you are white enough and wealthy enough that you are barely inconvenienced by what is going on and are able to "digital detox" or whatever. I assume you also are not an immigrant and no one you care about is at risk of being murdered by ICE. Really happy for you.

HN is the only social media site I use, btw.

Ding ding ding. The salute is just shorthand so everyone knows what he supports.

Where is there verifiable proof that capitalism is not rule by the rich and powerful?

It is a different type of slavery, just as historically there were lots of variations of slavery, with differing levels of what a slave could do. Do you know what wage slaves are allowed to do? Work for a wage (AKA sell their time and/or bodies), or die. Sure seems like slavery to me.

> It seems like a blanket ban on exposure of nearly all possible wrongdoing.

And a proportional increase in power goes with that ban on exposing wrongdoing. Which is absolutely the goal of secrecy in government.

Jane Doe making $14/hr at McDonald’s is absolutely a wage slave. It is different than historical chattel slavery, but no less slavery, albeit dressed up to look less offensive on the surface.

This indeed. Economic democracy is as important as political democracy.

It's mental illness, probably. Look up gang-stalking, it's a paranoid delusion of persecution, and the internet has enabled people that have it to get together and confirm each other's cases.
