Interesting that the default mode for so many people on hacker news is judgement. I'm here to learn so thank you for sharing your approach. I find it a refreshing way to engage users who are using the resources either way. Would love to hear more about it's impact over time.

Love this. We made the same choice for our startup.

Would love to know if there are any industries/verticals you have found yourself steering clear of and, if so, why?

Education is a big sector with a lot of problems that simply can't be solved with a "one size fits all" solution. It needs all the help it can get and that means ignoring the loud-mouth blame gamers who are more concerned with being right than they are finding workable solutions.

Change the name David to your mother's name and change Tom to any random person talking to her at work. Still happy with the tone?

Glad they are moving on. IMHO never understood what problem OINK was solving or why so many people ran to support it simply because Kevin Rose was attached. I have the utmost respect for Kevin but oink was very "emperor's new clothes" for me. I wondered what everyone was looking at while I saw nothing but junk

I'm familiar with that treatise on how to disagree. While it is a great resource for certain styles of conversation, I stand by the tone of my response. Thank you however for your opinion and concern for the community.

In my opinion this is pathetic and intellectually lazy writing. Don't like him? don't use his shit but for the love of sanity can we all stop pretending that we were born fully aware, mentally and emotionally developed adults who made no missteps of character in college? I certainly wasn't perfect and I doubt you were either. People grow up and mistakes, both big and small, are a part of that. I've grown enough between college and now to allow others the room to do the same.

I love gtrot. My last trip to vegas was planned around it. While I agree that facebook is the fastest way to get to "personal" I think an option to create your own version of "personal" by ranking the suggested activities of other users who share similar tastes would be equally effective.

no. it's still very much a solution searching for a problem and outside of specific events like SXSWi I'd say it shows a fundamental lack of general tech understanding that could be slightly damaging.
