Seeing the *arr stack mentioned a handful of times, so this may be the best place to ask... Is the *arr stack primarily used for obtaining content that you haven't purchased? Or is there a way you can legally "buy" the content that you are downloading?

Can it be used for the dark gray area of "I have all this content on physical media, and I don't want to rip it myself", so I just hand it to the *arr stack, and it does the work?

Alternatively, keeping kids locked up at home for the first 3-4 years limits their exposure to a variety of situations that help their brains and bodies develop. Then the next generation has a terrible immune system, no social skills, and are underdeveloped mentally.

In fairness, I _do_ agree that there are some things that need to be given up as a parent of young kids... Don't take your kids to a fine restaurant. But at the same time, I don't think children should be excluded from 95% of things because it inconveniences someone else. If it were about preventing people from inconveniencing others, then I think there's a strong argument that it's more than just kids that shouldn't be allowed to do the "fun stuff".

Genuinely curious: what are people using these smaller local models for? They are getting decently capable, but they are still small enough that I don't trust them for "real" work outside of a handful of fun toy projects.

Are people actually using them in coding agents? Or are they mostly using them for other things?

Presumably, though, those are also things that you'd need for a physical print book, and you could share some of that effort / cost between the two? Maybe this is a naive assumption, but I would assume that the total cost per unit of ebook is still a decent amount less than a print book, even when factoring for the publishing costs, purely due to the fact that you are dealing with a digital version compared with a print version that needs real materials and labor.

My question is, where do people buy epubs for these? Are you buying them off of Kindle or similar and stripping the DRM? My biggest withholding is that I can get used paper books for quite cheep (ie, from thriftbooks or similar), but there's not really a similar marketplace for digital versions (understandably so). Maybe I'm just cheap, but I have a hard time justifying near-full-price for books that I can get the physical version for much cheaper, or I already have sitting on my shelf at home.

Any thoughts?

I sit here typing on my DIY split keyboard powered by 2 nice!nanos. It's worth noting that a typical wireless split keyboard (separate left and right halves) uses 2 nice!nanos, so really it's only 25k people interested. That's assuming each person only builds one split keyboard, which... All the keyboard fans I know start with one, but don't stop there :p
