How do you know it was written by a human? All we can do is to believe the author.

Was this simplified version made by AI, or did a real person write it?

For the past two years, I have been exporting my images in WebP instead of JPG. If I share it online or send it by an email, I am pretty sure the other side will be able to see them.

I honestly think that all phones and even professional cameras should replace JPG with WEBP, we will have like 30% smaller photos.

The DNG format (for raw photos) allows JPEG XL compression (it used to allow only JPEG in the past). I wish some country made it mandatory for cameras to let user take photos in DNG (just like USB-C is mandatory in the EU).

I am happy that HEIC from Apple did not take off (as it was proprietary, protected by patents).

Github asked me to file a new ticket, so it is all under Ticket 4833281 now.

The support for WEBP images across the industry is like 100x better than AVIF or JXL.

Thanks! One is Ticket 4822535, another is Ticket 4726557.

Github did take down this https://github.com/spooknik/Photopea-Appimage and other repos in the past, but now, I feel like I talk to a robot. I am happy to hear that they have real employee! :D

Hey guys, thank you all very much for your comments! I just woke up, I did not really believe my post would get this much attention, so thanks!

Honestly, I was a hoping that giving attention to this problem here at HN might lead to someone from Github actually noticing my problem and looking into it.

I think I will try solving it with a lawyer. But it would be really cool if I could spend my days writing code instead of dealing with lawyers and stuff.

These Github repositories contain copies of my JS files (identical JS - letter by letter), with a few lines deleted to allow running it on any domain.

I wanted to discuss the behaviour of Github without giving these "projects" even more attention.

Thanks a lot!

1) About 30% of my original code is open-source as JS libraries: they end with ".js"-https://github.com/photopea?tab=repositories

2) WASM is not faster than Javascript "by default". Both can be fast or slow depending on how you write it. I don't think having everything in WASM would make Photopea significantly faster. Also, Photopea uses many libraries as WASM (WEBP decoding, ZSTD decoding, JPG decoding, Harfbuzz, ... JXL / AVIF encoding)

3) I never used any Framework, but if it is just a bunch of a JS code, I think I managed to write an equally good JS code for the UI over the past 14 years.

There have been only two photo editors that fully support the PSD format: Photopea and Adobe Photoshop. When a new one appears, which fully supports the PSD format, from an anonymous creator, it is very likely a copy one of these two. And they usually name it Photopea-offline, etc.

Wow, that might actually work, thanks!
