Who knew a little emacs-like editor would be so controversial.

I think it looks great. Syntax highlighting, multi-buffer, splits, standard emacs commands... For new users in the emacs camp, this seems like a nice editor to include in the base install. Even as a vi user, I'd be pretty happy being stuck with this in a rescue system.

The pipe is metal. You don't print that part.

TIL, thanks! I wondered if that was the case, but couldn't find a license while clicking around in the code on my phone.

How does GPL code get ported to BSD?

That's pretty much it. I wouldn't have mentioned it if not for the fact that it's easy to fix and for users it just looks like the site is down, which is not uncommon for small projects posted to HN.

I guess some people thought I liked cloudflare or something... that's definitely not the case.

Well, it's certainly a dumb situation that I don't like that's created by my employer (and many others with similar setups), but it takes only two clicks to pick a category to make it available to folks behind these firewalls.

I went ahead and chose "blog" because it sounds like it's a blog. Apparently the "newly seen domains" category goes away on its own after 30 days, so that would have fixed itself, though then it would have been "uncategorized" and still blocked.

It'd be interesting to see the trace of that session. Depending on how it used its tools, it may never have seen that comment.

The eqbench creative writing "slop profiles" do something similar. https://eqbench.com/creative_writing.html

Click the (i) next to the slop score for any model and it will show other models that are similar in terms of their most commonly used words and phrases.

The insistence that you must "work alone" and that similarity between submissions will get you flagged would make me really uncomfortable. I think I would be afraid to talk to the TAs lest I get poisoned by their knowledge.

Yeah, I had to go high-end to get one with enough CCDs to make use of the memory channels. I'm curious to know what all-read bandwidth you see when you run intel mlc on your system. My Xeon W5 was doing ~180GB/s after a lot of tuning, which was very disappointing. The Threadripper does ~320GB/s. From what I've heard, Granite Rapids is supposed to have solved the bandwidth problems that ailed Sapphire Rapids, so your numbers ought to be similar.

Wow, somehow I didn't know about this. Now I'm angry, bundling an official Macintosh BASIC on every computer would have been huuuge for young-me.

On the desktop Intel has better memory controllers last time I looked, but it’s not that big a difference. Something in your setup is just broken. Failures will happen with any brand, so I wouldn’t chalk it up to AMD vs Intel… figure out where your problem is and get the faulty part replaced if you can.

I feel you though, regardless of the cause, that is an extremely frustrating place to be.
