The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkings. (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Selfish_Gene)

The idea that organisms evolved to be survival vehicles for our genes totally inverted and simplified my view of life. It gave me a plausible explanation for how we came to be, and put the final nail in religion's coffin (for me).

Your government (I'm assuming you live in the USA || Canada) supports "Houses of Worship" through tax exemptions. I'd feel like I was finally getting some value out of a church if a conference was held there.

edit: Added Canada; we do the same.

I wish I didn't give a shit about this whole situation. It really doesn't affect me in anyway. However, when I do think about it, this is what comes to mind:

1. John and Dan started the podcast together

2. John came up with the name

3. Something happend between the two of them

4. John leaves, taking the show with him.

From a business perspective, I'm shocked at both John and Dan. John took the whole brand and said it was his and started monitizing it right away, presumably cutting Dan out of any revenue. Dan, is just letting that slide. Doesn't he have a right to half?

Johnny Ive can't simply walk away and use the iPhone design because he came up with the idea.

...anyway, like I said, I really shouldn't give a shit about this whole situations. I just think it stinks.

I worked with a guy that complained to me one day about taking his car to a full-service hand car wash. They did a crappy job. I asked if complained and he said it was no use, he just wasn't going to go there again...this pisses me off to no END! Fine, don't go back, but you know who gets screwed over? The next guy in line!! Go back for him, if not yourself.

It's the same reason we prosecute criminals. The dollar costs of prosecuting a petty thief is several orders of magnitude more than the stolen chocolate bar. But it has to be done.

The idea tha AT&T will learn because people are "voting with their dollar" is a joke.

Thanks. Did you change your standard of living to to follow your dream? If so, to what extent? Are you now eating raman? Also, do you have any dependents (wife, children)? Oh, and how old are you?

Sorry, I know you are really interested in sharing your product but many of us want to know what people are willing to give up to chase their dreams.

Thanks again.

Nice idea. I'd be interested to know (and if you're willing to share with the community):

1. What was your job.

2. How much did you get paid.

3. How much savings(runway) do you have to support this product.

Thanks!

I don't see it as nasty, just an observation of various facts that lead me to believe (perhaps incorrectly) that the post has ulterior motives. But since you ask, this is what lead me to comment how I did.

- HN is about sharing and opinions, so I decide to share mine.

- The poster opened an HN account 4 days ago and the startup was launched 5 days ago.

- "Open Letter" titled posts almost always leads to someone bashing a product or individual. Imagine how relieved HN will be when they see that it is indeed a "heart warming" thank you letter...did you feel good reading this?

- Without the product the startup wouldn't be here. All credit goes to Balsamiq while conveniently encouraging you to view the startup.

- And, as a software developer (who has one more than once been NOT paid for services rendered) this one really raises my suspicion. The poster received the software 8 monts ago and will get the $79 to Balsamic ASAP.

Anyway, right or wrong, that is how I came to my original comment. I'll take my down votes if necessary.

edit: formatting

It shouldn't be hard to hear. If it's not true then who cares what I think. Like I said, I probably just be cynical.

I think this "open letter" is a little disingenuous. A nice heartwarming letter of thanks by a poster that signed up to HN 4 days ago. Maybe I'm cynical, but this seems like astro-turfing.

The most important feature (for me) that any music library is missing is podcast support. Just a thought.
