This is what we do, but we warn rather than just swallow it. I find it the best of both.

I feel ike #5 is why many people like GraphQL, and #1 - #4 is why many hate it.

It becomes much easier to understand what data exists and build tools on top of it's schema. But the extra cludge it adds to optimise the specific case of returning less data in a field is often counter productive.

A fascinating discussion on "How we reopen". Learn more here https://ethics.harvard.edu/covid-roadmap

(Made my morning to see both these names pop up in the same notification when I woke up )

Had the disorienting experience of listening to this very episode while absently browsing hacker news and reading this comment

I don't think the posted conception of the culture war as a "holding pattern of conflict" is incompatible with the idea that it's also a legitimate outpouring of the voice of the disenfranchised.

Some might say that we've become stuck in that outpouring, and enamoured with conflict rather than any kind of coherent vision for how to be.

The 80,000 hours podcast probably had the largest intellectual impact on me of any media in 2019, not only in terms of actual content but pointers to other thinkers / ideas.

My favorite episode was probably: https://80000hours.org/podcast/episodes/glen-weyl-radically-...

The first time I listened I noped out after the first 20 minutes due to all the terminology being slung around and (seemingly) ungrounded anti-capitalist rhetoric. But I gave it another go after the episode with Vitalik Buterin and I'm very glad I did. Once they get going it's a fascinating introduction to collective action problems, public goods, and bleeding edge ideas of what we might do to solve them (pairs well with "Vitalik Buterin on The Portal" first as a gentler intro to the idea of public goods).

The charter cities institute episode was also great as an exploration of new ideas that might really move the needle on human suffering

I agree, there's a difference between having an opinion and using a companies platform to express that opinion.
