Oh yeah - you are right. It's unimaginable and basically... no one would survive. Sad to say...
My revelation on this was when my daughter got type 1 diabetes. If the world goes south, even if I manage to do everything and "win", she's dead in six months. Of course, since then I've realised that the "do everything and "win"" thing is also stupid, no one is going to be able to "make it" a handful will luck out and mangage somehow.. but it won't be because of prepping.
On the other hand, if there's a blip - like a cyber attack, or a regional war, a solar flare, bad volcano, or a mega storm. then preps might make things more comfortable until the state gets back up and running.
