I'm aware of the negative impacts, but it could have some positive effects due to:

- improvement of barren soil with organic matter

- soil coverage and microclimate regulation

- stabilization and erosion prevention

- facilitation of other plant species' establishment

One could even speculate that this infestation resembles a form of ecological succession.
