i think luna-max has the best cost value offer when it comes to coding, but i note the multi modality of gemini flash as a win
i might consider 3.8 flash for simple side hobby projects or quick scaffolding but would not trust it for long agentic tasks, that really is the realm of sol/fable
agy cli still has a lot of issues not sure if its due to the underlying model hallucinating or the harness or both
experience tells me that those people simply have not used models for a long period of time specifically on coding and have run their own comparisons
to someone who uses all vendors, the differences are very palpable and drives purchase decisions.
also keep in mind Gemini and other labs have repeatedly done benchmaxxing, you must have your own benchmarks to evaluate these models.
so its fast sure and decent at non coding usage but for developers nothing can really top sol or fable.
even grok 4.6 is so so and i would not choose 3.8 flash over it.
Yes they will. Also I predict that MV2 is going to be a major boon for firefox.
It has taken a long time to prove the value of firefox to the masses and I believe mv2 extensions in particular ublock origin will be what keeps people coming back to it
I've not touched chrome in decades. Firefox stands strong. I would donate but in EU that comes with tax issues.
AI agents are grounded on the user provided direction. If it doesn't work well then it naturally loses trust.
Chinese companies do not follow American laws and there are absolutely no consequences for violating it.
Moreover, the average American is not even aware of exactly what the legal/judicial environment is like in China. If your code and data is stolen, you can't fly to China and demand justice in the courts.
this is false.. Gander's own privacy policy says it collects account info including name/email/DOB IP, device ID and physical location. While Canada post may seemingly offer isolation, Bill c-22 famously makes such segregation moot, as there is no formal legal process to obtaining your posts and content viewed. Just having an IP address from your Canadian ISP would be enough and total.
> you can't post hate speech or threats of violence
is a pretty misleading summary of Canadian speech law, it prohibits public statements likely to expose protected groups to hatred or contempt, and covers public incitement and wilful promotion of hatred.
but critically the speakers intent is actually irrelevant under this law. it could be someone trolling or just saying something casual without much harm intended. no clear border Canadians can know in advance, something you thought was harmless can be complained (recently they were encouraging reporting "harmful content" on X) and judged later based on its supposed effect. thats exactly where the chilling effect comes from.
Even more disturbing is that Gander itself has literally published an article pushing Canadian hate speech laws should be expanded and enforced on social platforms.
> Also not a thing. American platforms practice widespread self-censorship and have no protection under the law except from the state.
1st aendment generally protects a user from government censorship, not from a private website deciding what it wants to host thats very different from American platforms having no protection.
I understand that you might view these laws and moderation policies are good but dismissing the concerns while mispresenting basic facts about the service and while promoting a social network seemingly started by a CTO from pornhub pushing for more censorship and broad application of Canadian hate speech, to say the least very disturbing and not a wise PR move.
After Nikita took over I found X to be significantly worse. They also realized paying people to repost viral videos wasn't drawing advertisers.
In fact one fo the reasons I think their algorithm is so bad now is because they lack advertisers (conversion on X remains the lowest out of all social media platforms) and have to rely on people paying for X premium who naturally wants to be seen and engage in echo chambers.
The real deal breaker for me is when X did not honor their freedom of speech philosophy and did not offer me protection when a certain European country got involved and became very aggressive that I had to leave.
The problem is a network effect. Lot of people rage quit X and then they return to it because they realize the reach isn't there on Bluesky, and whenever that happens it just sends strong signals
I don't really like X either, I feel like the feed algorithm isn't very good and just shows the same thing repeated by multiple accounts.
I'm trying to objectively view the two platforms without the partisan rhetorics. There isn't that many places besides Threads.
I personally like the old php forums which had a real presence.
X is used internationally, especially big in Japan and has lot of adoption among working professionals. Just my two cents and I personally don't really like X much either. Threads also isn't that great either.
canadian dollar is very cheap so you'd likely see 40~50% more headcounts for the same burn rates you get in USA
i definitely dont think those shopify engineers are going to be retained long term however
