truth is, all most popular platforms have an insane amount of toxicity. it doesn't strictly comes from the platform it self, but from people.
I was thinking the same.
This can either go incredibly well or it can go incredibly wrong.
I’m being asked very open ended scenario-based questions, I’m answering honestly, and it seems to be going well (i’m moving through the interview funnel).
I’m not getting asked deeply technical questions. No weird obscure trivia. No stack-specific things. No linux internals. No weird networking trap questions. Coding part is essentially gone.
My interviewers so far have mostly been other senior SREs.
It looks like a market where a senior sre can recognise another senior sre. Some kind of closed circle.
So weird, so so weird.
Jokes aside, you can’t get anywhere near zero fault unless to impose strict operating regulations , requirements and procedures and regular checks… just like in aviation.
And even there, boeing manages to fuck it up somehow.
Lol nope? This is utter ignorance. Medieval kings were constantly balancing power with people directly underneath them.
Whole dynasties have been eradicated in the continuous power struggles, particularly from rich families.
Not only that: medieval kings had to bow to religious authorities as well (something ee don’t do anymore). In 1077 kind henry iv had to stand three days bare headed in the snow to convince pope gregory vii to reverse his excommunication (an excommunication would effectively invalidate him as a king, btw).

You comment shows your utter general ignorance and complete misunderstanding of medieval times.
I mean, it’s no wonder people move from uganda to mississipi (or other places in the us) and not rhe other way around.
Rather than culture, for me it was the moderation body.
There were a bunch of people that were policing the dumbest minutie, and being assholish about that.
I occasionally would get my answers rewritten to have a completely different tone. My tone was not polemical or controversial in any way. It was just my tone. It was me. And somebody was not okay with that. They would edit MY TEXT and potentially put words in my mouth.
That's absolutely unacceptable.
Ten years on and i'm still salty about that, and i cheerish stackoverflow's death every time it gets brought up.
StackOverflow: Rest in piss, you won't be missed.
Don't even get me started on USB...
this is a serious issue though.
if you harp too much about something, it becomes background noise. people get desensitized.
if you harp about too many things, it fatigues people as well (ever heard of "alert fatigue"?).
so yeah, harping too much, too loudly about too many things is a serious and the society should really start looking into this
(edit: i am aware of the irony of harping about harping)
I have a 16" m4 max from work (36gb) and is an incredible machine (build quality, incredible display, overall feel). I also have a private macbook neo which should be similar to M1 in terms of performance but it's limited to 8gb of memory.
The neo/M1 performances are sufficient for my needs (for private computing) and chances are the M1 pro actually performs better than my neo (if anything for the more abundant memory).
I might to back to the listing and try to haggle the price even lower, considering a new generation of macbook pros has just been announced.
I'm doing a lot of investigations using AI. I know what to look into, I'm just using AI to do the menial tasks (pull logs from there, see if X is happening, edit that grafana dashboard, etc etc).
And frankly I see that mostly AI-doomers voices have been heard. I have a colleague from finance dept that's ecstatic about having a claude plugin for excel. She still reviews the sheets she compiles but she's so happy to have an incredible tool to take care of the menial work (that is, a conversational interface rather than having to go click left and right to build the kind of visualization she wants etc etc).
So... It's not as bad as some people say it is.
