And yet a bunch of volunteers have spent nearly 30 years now building a castle.

Not to be snarky, but the CEO is saying that the supply will be tight for years. I know Econ 101 is over simplified but I do recall that when you reduce supply and demand stays constant, or increases, the price goes up.

I loved playing this game as a kid! I am really saddened that it's never had a follow up or even a second look. The humor really stuck out to me.

I am surprised to hear that people felt this game was hard! Maybe it was because I was younger when I played it but I thought it was a lot of fun.

I do recall trying to get a "legit" copy of this game several times over the years and it's availability has been either nonexistant or barely there.

Seriously, it feels like services that were once rock solid are now trembling every time the wind blows.

I think the difference here is that sony is in the middle of taking down their ps3 store, and while they say you'll be able to download the games for the "foreseeable future" I don't think many folks have a great deal of confidence in this being true for for that long.

Valve has spent the better part of 20 years fostering a good relations with the gaming community and pretty much every gamer has a great deal of confidence that they'll protect your purchases.

Or, in certain cases, forfeiture of liberty, material wealth, or in extreme cases, their existence.

I can totally buy that this is a larger contributor! Thank you, I wasn't aware that it was going on right now.

I don't think this portents anything great for software in general.

We're a good year+ into the use LLMs for all major bits of software that we all rely upon and GitHub here is down to one 9 of uptime. I've been using GitHub for a _long_ time, my first commits there go back to August 2009!, and I honestly don't recall GitHub going down as much as it has in the last year.

I'm sure there's other things happening in the background, but I can not help but believe that this is directly correlated with the increase of LLM usage.

Though I would love to hear someone else's pet theory how a rock of the internet went from four+ nines of uptime to maybe one.

The only thing I really hope for if this continues for an extended period of time is everyone optimizing their programs to use a minimal amount of ram.

I nominally agree with this sentiment. BCBS does have issues like this happen, but not at the same level others, in my experience.

Anecdotally though, I've found that my current insurer (United) denies and delays care far, far, more often than when I had a similar plan with BCBS. And I'm not talking about small bills, my son was in the NICU for 41 days, at a cost of ~$150,000. Through BCBS I paid like a grand of that. United denies the most random things, a referral to a specialist, meds for on brand usage while they'll pay for other meds that are off brand, for instance.

I do have a platinum level plan, I am _extremely_ lucky to have this. I know the vast majority of Americans, most of my friends and family, fight with their insurance companies for far less than my complaints.

Everything old is new again. Back in the 2010s Sharp tried to release a TV with an extra yellow colored subpixel. Commercially, it failed spectacularly.

If you had a large stock of stolen CCs you could use this to pay a buck or two on everyone's bill and verify that the cards are valid.

Thank you for this! I have read Blindsight but I have long wondered why everyone thought it was so revolutionary. I kept thinking I was missing something. And I think this is it! In that I already thought/knew that everyone is basically sleepwalking through life and are not really conscious of what's going on.

I came to my conclusions on this mostly through my own studies on Illusions and other studies on consciousness. Knowing basic facts of how we see, and all the ways that our sight, touch and hearing really, fail us. Seeing the studies of how people who have their hemispheres separated can have parts of their body act independently of each other really blew my mind when I first learned about it.

Too many people believe that they themselves are sitting in a box and looking out through windows when really we're in a dark room reading a bunch of instruments and guessing what's out there. Plato's Cave is real and we are, all of us, already inside it.
