Depends on how you look at it I guess.

My workplace doesn't offer this, but I like the idea of how 1Password does it. If your workplace has a business account with 1Password, each of the business users gets a personal account for free. If you change jobs you can pay for your own account, but it isn't tied to the company account other than getting it for free with the corporate account.

The other person's iCloud backup I assume.

Avanced Data Security keeps your copy in iCloud safe, but doesn't help with the people you are messaging's copy.

Caddy is great, but doesn't solve the problem I was talking about on its own.

Caddy will get SSL certs automatically if it is exposed to the internet and DNS for that domain points to it, but if you are routing over tailscale exclusively Caddy can't automatically validate the domain names over ACME. There is a Caddy extension for doing DNS based validation, but that puts you back to needing a DNS provider with an API.

I mean, I have a lifetime license for Plex, but even I would happily pay some nominal amount every year if Plex stopped making their software worse intentionally.

You do need a DNS service with API access for automatically creating/renewing the certificates for things that are only served over tailscale though, since they aren't publicly accessible for the letsencrypt servers to talk to.

If you don't proxy or tunnel the connection, it isn't an issue. I assume they are using Tailscale for the actual connection.

The GP believes that countries deporting people and/or enforce immigration law is "ethnic cleansing"

Scalping is not a serious risk with digital goods. When the company can sell an infinite number of licenses, there is zero risk of a third party coming in and buying up a significant fraction of the capacity and overcharging people.

Only if you have cold to retain...

Just get the crypto bros involved. Track the license using blockchain. Should allow transferal of the license without allowing endless duplication.

So, the exactly same as the USA then.

They very much aren't good enough yet. I'm a highly technical user and have had to move to using MDM tools to actually have something that works reliably.

Dodged that bullet. Heard Tim Cook's comments and decided to pull the trigger on the machine I was debating as I didn't think Gruber was right on them waiting until new models to change prices.
