The difference this time around is quantitative tightening and increasing interest rates. If the Fed stays true to its word, then we'll remain in a bear market.

Bear market rallies are bound to keep happening as people's retirement funds get cash inflows and fund managers allocate a portion to equities.

If you can find a way to go on life support for a little while - perhaps just shut down temporarily, then it will pay off, I think.

Over the next few months to a couple of years:

- Interest rates will keep going up and Quantitative tightening will happen.

- There will be a recession.

- A lot of people who resigned greatly will be broke and in need of work.

- Your services will be needed, and in a big way.

The person who finds what they love to do is rare, but the person who finds their calling is rarer still.

This is why more seasoned traders pay attention to trading volume. It is also how many players manipulate the naive traders into thinking a stock is crashing or booming.

> I’ll bet an engineer makes a better product manager than a siloed product manager with no engineering experience.

This depends on who the product's consumers are and how mature the company is. A skilled product manager uses the expertise of engineers to build a great product. Being an ex-engineer is arguably useful in a fast-paced small team like an early stage startup but it can also turn into an annoying (to engineers) liability in an environment where product and engineering responsibilities are defined.

> Also I feel like developers are a bit too self-centered.

Compared to whom (at Netflix) are developers (at Netflix) self-centered?

People who criticize do it for their own satisfaction, rather than to actually help. Ignore it, unless you're looking for feedback.

As a counterpoint, for me light text on a dark background is easier to read than black text on a white background. Go figure. So much so that I sometimes create dark-mode CSS user scripts for sites that don't offer a dark mode.

If there's anything distinctly Canadian - truly, than the US, is that it is officially bilingual. Of course, almost no one in English speaking Canada can speak a lick of French because of how awful French language classes are - you can get an A yet remember nothing.

Yes, just like you can pump other for-profit services and products on HN, you can pump for-profit books too.

How do cures propagate? For example, is there a database of "best treatments for disease x"? How much time does it take for treatments to become widely available?

If Amazon pays out everything it makes to its vendors and employees, then the vendors and employees pay taxes on income, no? Whats so bad about that?

Who your kids end up marrying is mentioned as a big driver of caste in the article. I think that holds true today as well. All things being equal, your professor / lawyer / doctor parents probably don't want you to marry a janitor.

And, I'm pretty sure this is true everywhere.

In a highly competitve place (mostly due to population), they'll say something like, "he's from the janitor class, but thats okay, because he's a doctor" to justify marrying outside the caste.
