No, they are "building" nuclear plant. In 2009 they planed to use French technology: https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/Articles/France,-Poland-a... . In 2011 Westinghouse was already on shortlist: https://www.reuters.com/article/poland-nuclear-idUSLDE72M0ST... . And 10 year later, Poland decided it is time to select location again, throwing away all earlier preparations.

It is all as hilarious as Korean tanks purchase - we learned that Poland is going to borrow money from Korea only when Korean media announced it. No one knows actual financing conditions. But it still might turn better than https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gawron-class_corvette

Plenty of "Learn more" buttons and I still don't know what the GraalOS is about.

So instead I will just point out to: https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/graalvm_enterprise_commun... where Oracle shows how GraalVM AOT apps are slower than simply running on normal JIT JVM unless ... you use the "GraalVM Enterprise Edition". I guess it always is some kind of sales pitch with them.

I would expect a lot more turf wars if drug market shrinks. And not having the drug money flow into the country might not be that great, at lest in short time.

I am sure that over 50% of users doesn't even know what a browser is. Even with tech people I would expect few % to not care about such screen at all.

> attracts some mediocre programmers who produce mediocre code

That will be reality for most companies, no matter the language. And if Java projects still got delivered in such conditions - it might also be a mediocre language but it is also just good enough.

It didn't even say that you could "simply use rsync" instead of your product, it still has a lot to learn.

AFAIK Most of the traffic goes: subscriber <-> (single) satellite <-> local base station. And the latter operates under the rules of given country.

It might exist but open-core model ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-core_model ) is much more commmn. I went through QT project licensing FAQ and I still don't see any situation when I would be forced to pay for commercial license when creating commercial software. Some SO answers suggest that complying with LGPL is harder on mobile OSes. Anyway - if you release something on open license, you can't really limit its use, no matter how your second license is constructed. That is probably why paid add-ons are so popular.

I am not sure about other examples, but isn't it just "winner takes it all market" in case of professional athletes? Fans want to see their favorite player and that brings in money. Meanwhile everyone else will be paid peanuts.

Is there an easy way to filter out substack submissions from HN? I find the "newsletter popup in your face" approach more annoying than most ads.

It might be more an issue of "if" than "when". Can LLM even go beyond being "interactive textbook"? On the other hand, looking at constant complaints from data scientists, ChatGPT can replace them here and now. It might not be able to understand the problems, but supplying boss with arguments that support their decision is the matter of weeks, maybe just an extra preamble/prompt will be enough.

It is common for all doomsayers that their timing sucks and is on timescale from next week to 50 years in future. Most of them have nothing more than gut feeling, so having actual model, verifying predictions and adjusting it to actual results is so rare it is worth informing about. It probably also means ecology is more of a science than economy ever was. And that is despite having same issues - very complex systems, where everything impacts something else and no real way to perform any experiments.

You know that after fire in OVH datacenter, they asked their customers to start their disaster recovery plans - and people asked where is such option in OVH admin menu? Not excusing them, but many customers are completely clueless about backups and data security in general.

I have heard that TikTok algorithm is great as long as you give it a bit time to learn your preferences. I don't think I would be able to survive that process, for exact same reason - it serves absolute dumb garbage, in hundreds.
