As someone who wrote Indie Windows software, it's not only the problem of supply vs. demand (I'd actually argue that there are a fair amount of people who are happy to pay Coda-levels of money for software), the biggest problem is marketing.

If you're an Indie macOS or iOS dev, you've got so many places to drum up news about your app. If you're on Windows? There's Windows Central, and a few smaller blogs (and Reddit, but rules against self-promotion in most subs mean you're very likely to get your post whacked). Promotion is a huge challenge for Windows desktop devs

> This is what makes Stack Overflow so helpful, the accompanying natural language description of intentionality or special cases, even if the code that is found isn’t precisely what’s needed, it demonstrates directionally what to do.

You're entirely right, but if you're in an incredibly huge monorepo like Facebook, this information literally doesn't exist; that's part of the problem that Aroma is trying to solve - "how can we show people the Facebook App Way To Do That Thing, even if That Thing doesn't have current documentation"

(Disclaimer: I worked on the coding environment UX for Aroma)

> Around the same time that Grace’s cancer recurred and we began chemo anew, my former partners informed me they believe I cannot devote the time necessary to care for Grace while being a valuable contributor to Bolt

Wow. What a short-sighted hostile move, and especially disgusting given the US Healthcare system. Shame on them.

Was this person in their late teens / early 20s? Many people who have latent schizophrenia end up initially triggering it around this age via LSD - these people would have most likely triggered it eventually through stress.

At the end of the day, Notepad++ can't get a "Notepad++" cert because "Notepad++" is not a Legal Entity (i.e. a corporation or living person). At least from a policy perspective, Microsoft will only consider Legal Entities to be valid code signatories.

Yes, this is stupid and outdated, I agree - I personally think that Keybase issuing code signing certificates and being able to verify that the person who signed this also owns this GitHub and that Twitter account would still be super valuable.

This boilerplate exists in literally every site that hosts user-created content in some form and displays it to other people. If it didn't exist, the site would immediately be violating your copyright if they showed your content to anyone other than you

To an extent - many laptops and nearly all desktops don't have Thunderbolt at all. TB external GPUs are probably the main use-case for the technology today (people indeed do use them for rendering)

Check out Streamlabs OBS (SLOBS), its interface is much more streamlined than regular OBS, though they still have some difficulty walking the line between flexibility and simplicity.

I'm not disagreeing that it looks nicer, but trading FPS for clarity is definitely a good idea for live coding. I edited my previous comment, Twitch seems to have improved on this front

There's zero reason to run 60FPS for a text editor, turn it down to 15FPS and take that extra bandwidth and put it into quality - if you're worried about the YouTube quality after-the-fact, you can run two encoding jobs though it's a bit rough on your CPU

I like it but having to fiddle with dependencies makes it harder to get started, maybe submodule them?

I think that the more likely reason is that many corporate security standards (think PCI compliance etc etc) are starting to blanket ban SHA-1, and it was cheaper to switch away from it than continue having to carve out policy exceptions with their large customers who are on support contracts for Win7

I'd personally be super interested in that code, even if it wasn't usable out of the box (i.e. just dump what you have)
