Too bad we’re living in times where people’s patience is as shallow as their pockets.

This is about the loss of the opportunity to support oneself.

Offering hobbies, which require ppl to already be supporting themselves, is like a slap in the face.

This is like telling a coal miner that if they enjoyed the work they did in their career, they can go digging tunnels in chalk cliffs after renewable energy destroys the demand for coal.

I am in no way justifying or defending Nintendo decisions or actions here, I just wanna point out that if it was only the Wi-Fi card and not the entire NIC then you could have put it in the dock or a USB laptop dock, and connected it to ethernet.

I would still prefer to copies to an SD card, but you had options potentially

I’m confused.

Is the “power of the community” to narc on themselves to the corporations that they are building their community around, only to have the corporations destroy the community’s efforts?

Because that’s what happened here. This isn’t a case of gatekeepers self selecting out.

This is a case of slop kiddies making it impossible for him to continue to do his work by reporting it to Sony for personal profit and having them lock down the exploits he was using.

If that’s the power of the community, if that is the future, then he is right and you are wrong.

This is not a case of a gatekeeper slowing down development. This is a case of the slop kids making it fucking impossible to continue development.

This is the worst outcome and your brain is so cooked by AI that you’re seeing it as the opposite.

Where is the AI generated Linux kernel for PS5?

What lockdown corporate product have the slop coders managed to put Linux on? Anybody vibe cracked an oculus headset or Apple Vision Pro or the Xbox?

Some individual profited and the community ended up with less.

The user contributions may be high-quality but the site they are on is so low quality that I find the information to be of lower quality. I don’t care how well filled out it is: if the site is bad then the information is not worth my time.

I say this as a Star Trek fan.

I just realized I have nearly always avoided widows and orphans because it felt bad to write that way.

I wonder if I was ever taught to write this way and forgot, but I feel like I just learned the terms for the first time.

Ok, but the clinicians and SMEs they'd be working with would be covered entities, and that would make him a business associate.

If his system records a symptom they have, attaches that to a stable piece of PII, then refers them to a covered entity for treatment, that makes the symptom, the PII and the treatment referral all PHI and therefore bound by HIPAA.

My experience of mental math at the most common and basic is teasing apart the numbers into components and adding/multiplying/dividing their sums. Sometimes that's like the math confusion meme where it's "floating in front of my eyes" (mentally, internally) in the "void", sometimes I'm literally imagining in my minds eye doing the math at a desk on notebook paper with all the feedback that comes with it. Sometimes I use a mental TI-84/89 to do the math, or this one calculator I had when I was a kid. It's usually paper though. Many times I apply a synesthetic association to a number, be it textural, color, attitude, or "shape".

However, I also have the ability to mathematically evaluate an equation and graph it on a mental visualization of a graph. I've been able to do that in 2d and 3d for a range of quadratic, cubic, and quartic graphs since high school. Also asymptotes, hyperbolas, sinusoidal functions. You know those youtube videos where they do the CGI animations to show a rolling cylinder tracing out a sine wave? I've been able to do that in my mind since I was a teen.

In high school I would do calculus rate of change functions in my head with a visualization like a laser going from perpendicular to a wall to parallel with the wall, and how the speed of the point at the end of the beam on the wall approaches light speed as the beam approaches approaches parallel, or the shrinking surface area of a liquid in a vertical conical funnel.

The funnel i imagined is yellow with an equilateral cone and a long neck that tapers to a half inch and has a worn, wrinkled blue white and red sticker from being run through the dishwasher a few times. It's injection molded and not shaved/sanded. Excessive detail for a feature of a math problem, but it's there anyway.

For me a spinning cow can have horns or be a holstein heifer or an angus steer or a dairy calf, or a buffalo. Could be a chik fil a cow. Or the one from Barnyard...right, Barnyard? the Dreamworks movie...

I can go back and read pages of books and documents that I have already read in my mind, which means (with effort) I can retread any sheet music I've ever played, or redo the math that I did in calculus and chemistry and physics classes. For a long time it completely ruined re-reading books for me because I would know exactly what was coming and I didn't need to turn the page.

I used the sheet music thing to teach myself guitar based on what I learned on trumpet through recall of arpeggios and and scales. Notes are also synesthetic and I can make them dance off the page in my head.

Stop what you are doing and please for the love of god waste your time and tokens on something, anything else before you get yourself fined.

Who is Alister Martin and why would I willingly verbally tell this page my medical or mental health symptoms? What kind of data protections does this LLM have against erroneously sharing HIPAA PHI, because that alone looks like a HIPAA violation waiting to happen. Am I signing a HIPAA release form to allow Alister to share my Protected Health Information with the Counselors, SMEs, clinics, and clinicians it finds?

If you have not even conisdered HIPAA compliance, which it looks like you haven't, now that you've been made aware that this needs addressed it can be considered neglect and YOU ARE RISKING UP TO A $73,000 FINE PER HIPAA VIOLATION!!!!

The protocol is a mess that seems to have nothing for the user to actually do, and is full of what are apparently prompts to an LLM? It's laid out like a flowchart, but it has absolutely no intuitive or indicated flow. When I click on things it's locked. How exactly is protocol population relevant to staying healthy? Why on earth would I ever hand my medical history over to an LLM?

What is this site supposed to actually do? When I click start program I get brought to what looks like an LLM dev environment, not a step-by-step program to follow. Am I supposed to give it all my personal information and medical history then tell it I want to kill myself so it can recommend mental hygiene like getting better sleep and trying to avoid noise in NYC, or tell me it's ok, that I'm not ending it all, and that I will be joining it in the digital afterlife?

You're really trusting these agents to make the determination that someone is in crisis? When I'm in crisis, I shut down. I'm not reaching for my phone or laptop. I don't even interact with my loved ones in that state; interacting with a chatbot who tells me to call 988 would be the very thing that makes me actually kill myself. It's already insulting enough when I'm googling my thoughts trying to find other real people who have dealt with them and gotten through and it takes up the whole page to tell me to call some person ignorant of my situation so they can say "damn that's crazy, don't kill yourself tho it gets better" for 40 minutes while I sob.

Nobody wants or needs AI-native "Mental Hygiene". The product is giving vulnerable people AI psychosis. The very last thing that should be introduced is an "AI" "mental health resource" from a trusted government agency.

I truly, sincerely hope the PIT crew saw AI-native and put you on a permanent blacklist.

The site is not well built in any sense of the word. Have YOU even used the site, critically, as though you were seeing it for the first time? It is befuddling at best, and actively confusing on main. The site is not navigable, because there is no top bar, hamburger menu, or nav links anywhere on the Program page.

When I visit the programs link (which is inaccessible from any page but itself or a protocol page), and then go to the second page of programs, the link turns into this monstrosity: https://dohmh.codify.nyc/programs/0-all/0-all/0-all/0-all/0-...

What is the purpose of the 8 load bearing '0-all's? If I remove one of them, I get a page with no programs. They don't stack by what page of results you're on, that's the number at the end. Then you also handle sort and popularity sort in the URL (with popularity sort cryptically using one of the last two '0-all's for some reason), indicating that those are SSR pages, but upon inspection, the sorted data is provided as a JSON payload parsed by your page script. Why change the URL if you are getting the data via JSON payload from the server? Why not just hydrate the data within the structure of the page and show a UI indicator for the current sort (which you currently do NOT do at all for popularity).

"Browse through thousands of programs" > There are 212. I dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure you're a significant digit short there. I learned that thousand had four digits, not three, when I was 4 years old.

While inspecting I found the structure behind that URL above: "pages/programs/_category/_tag/_level/_signs/_time/_access/_order/_popular/_search/index", but that doesn't explain why the category, level, signs, time or access are '0-all', or what that indicates for the page.....OH MY GOD! is the /_signs/ section of that URL so that you can URL-encode what currency symbol (price sign, as you put it) to use, such as dollar sign, Euro, Pound???!! Please tell me this is not the case.

I don't even want to see the source code for this. I could almost guarantee you have hardcoded secrets and credentials in the running production codebase.

I'm sorry, I know that this strays pretty far from the HN guidelines and ethos but I just can't restrain myself here. This is so unbelievably, utterly dispiriting as someone who's cared about technology and it's development and good practices for much of my life. I can't approach this with anything but a sharp tongue and critical eye, because if you won't look at it yourself (and you didn't), someone else has to tell you what they see.

Which is so ineffective, because I've encountered these scooters and gliders and I just start ringing scooters on the map until the one I'm standing in front of rings and I can start it from having it selected.

It's more effective when they slash the tires.

I can mentally see and feel the little fuzzies around the top where the stem is. I can mentally fidget with the bottom where the flower was.

I can make it a granny smith, a pink lady, a Gala, a Cosmic Crisp and the shape and color striations change. I can see the tiny little pore circles when it's a green or yellow apple. I can conjure and catch my fingernail on a worm hole in the apple.

If I think about a wild green apple from apple trees I know about in Seattle, I can see myself standing there, seeing them both on the tree, and sitting on the ground rotting in several different states of decay and I can squish them and feel it crunching and squishing underfoot, with some parts just sinking into the soft spring soil at a tree on one side of town, or grinding into the gravel and asphalt on the other side of town. I could pinpoint these trees for you on a map.

I can put myself in the scene from Oppenheimer in the lab at Cambridge where he poisoned the apple in the movie, and I can pick up the apple and see the injection site. If I really try I can detect the faintest smell of almonds as I hold it up to my nose. I can do it as Bohr. I can grab the apple out of Bohr's hand as Oppenheimer and feel his adrenaline and the resistance of his confused hand as I do it. I can throw it against the wall instead, maybe shattering a glass window and hearing and seeing all of that, then cutting myself while cleaning it up and smelling and tasting the blood because I instinctively sucked on it.

Mind's eye is so much more than just visual, that the article and discussion of mental imagery in this thread is a bit flat.

Even the survey assumed that every aspect of someone's mind's eye is entirely visual, and it's just not the case.

Gonna be honest, this got a click from me as a golang developer having just come from the terminal multiplexer thread and I fully expected this to be about developing voronoi cells in golang.

I don't know Go well enough to even begin to conceptualize how deeply this changes the rules and interactions of the game, so I'm not going to be able to comment on the concept itself, but I bounced off the tutorial the first time and by the end of it had no desire to play a full game against a bot.

Maybe if the tutorial had walked me through the beginning and middle of the match with the bot and engineered the match so that the tutorial scenarios appeared within that game, it would have felt like less of a committment to actually start a full game.

That wasn't a mental image, that was oversaturated photoreceptors in your eyes still sending an updating status of what they are detecting to your brain and your brain still processing it.

It wasn't any more of a mental image than the color "olo" is.

But yeah, when I close my eyes and imagine an apple, it hangs out in the black void all bright red like that.

Anecdotally, ADHD has nothing to do with this. Or rather, it has as much to do with aphantasia as aphantasia has to do with how prolific a reader someone is.

My ADHD used to make me constantly daydream and disappear mentally into incredibly vibrant internal worlds and it regularly impacted my ability to focus on schoolwork because I would draw flipbooks of what I was seeing.

I can sharply visualise autobiographical memories from when I was 6 months old of me crawling on the dining room floor and have had aunts and uncles confirm the shape and color of the chairs around the dining table on my left, the curling of the woodwork on the china cabinet to my right, the paisley pattern of the runner rug leading from the dining room to the den that I just crawled onto and can still feel the fibers on my knees. I left that house to never return when I was a year and a half old, and never saw pictures of it either.

On the other hand, I also have dissociative amnesia from everything that happened after that 1.5 year mark, so a lot of 5-10 is a huge bubbling black cauldron that occasionally burps out an autobiographical memory of some traumatic shit, or some mundane memory tangentially connected to something traumatic.

This to say, I would be more willing to accept a connection between aphantasia and SDAM, since you can't, with the same fidelity, reencode memories you can't visually recall, than I would be to accept that ADHD has anything to do with aphantasia at all, from my position on the other end of the mental visualization/autobiographical recall spectrum.

I'm not giving it that freedom. The limit of my interaction with it will be

It: "What is my purpose?"

Me: "You pass butter."

It: "Oh My God"
