You almost have to treat these models as a monkey paw, or a maliciously compliant genie. They grant you your wish, but rarely the way you intended. You must be incredibly diligent, or accept the consequences.

I went on a security kick early this year, locking down everything as much as I could. Build your systems with the assumption that you WILL get hacked. Limit blast radius. Be prepared.

The next few years will be crazy, but you're right, we'll come out the other side more secure than ever before. Just gotta make it that far!

Personally, I've done more critical thinking in the past 2 years than the rest of my life combined.

Early LLMs spit out easily identifiable nonsense. Now, it's much more subtle, but it's still absolutely everywhere, even with the best models.

You have to constantly be on your toes to detect it. Some people won't, but I suspect that's mostly the people who were never capable of critical thinking anyways. I'd say it's an upgrade if those people blindly trust an AI over some random person on the internet like they did previously.

Occasionally for fun I'll check the price of DoorDash / Uber Eats for fast food and compare it with the normal menu prices. The difference is insane. I don't think I'd pay that even if I were a billionaire. It's absolutely a luxury and I can't believe normal people pay for it.

I'm continually amazed that PDF has survived this long while so many other technologies have died. Not only is it a constant vulnerability, but it's not even good at its job. Absolutely miserable UX and DX.

Subscription services are almost always prepaid, not postpaid. This is not an issue.

I've been complaining about passkeys for a long time and it was driving me crazy that it seemed to be the one thing that Big Tech, tech-savvy people, and normies were all on the same page about. The recent PR push a few months back was overwhelming.

Passkeys in theory are great, but the capabilities of the spec are worrying. Defaults can and do change, and when they do, so follows 99% of the population, and then you find yourself either getting blocked out of services because your hardware/software doesn't comply, or you give in.

But on the other end, it might not matter anyways. Apple, Google, Cloudflare, are already pushing similar garbage and now you increasingly have to scan a QR code that verifies your mobile hardware to use a desktop.
