Treating people and businesses ethically that don't reciprocate doesn't work, clearly. Those people and businesses cry in their milk while they do exactly the same thing. There are no ethics in play here.

But, hey if you want to defend billionaire narcissists that are destroying our planet and trying to take computing freedoms then I guess: you do you.

I find Sam Altman recent comments very "low" as well, neither matters. So in that case I think bounty hunters should just cold shoulder idiocracy and sell these to the underground. Let their customers be abused and complain about how OAI isn't protecting them. Each one of these types of events could cost them thousands of dollars in lost revenue and/or internal support.

The constraints will work against them long term. All this is doing is forcing people to look at how to run more with less. These companies are bloated beyond reality and have no incentive to optimize anything. They're starting out with access to everything and still producing very little tangible value comparative to the inputs. OAI and Anthropic represent the pure gluttony of the US tech bro market and it's not going to be the long term winner. It can't be lest the masses are cool at crowning these narcissists as kings.

Macbook Pro 14" Max M1 (64GB). Best Apple device I've owned and worth the investment at the time, especially given the prices now. It's still pretty great for being as old as it is. Have no intention to pay inflated prices, I'll ride it out.

This trope minimizes so many downsides of "frontier" models. When you can't do what you need to with a model it really isn't valuable - which is why subscriptions still exist. As soon as you're forced to pay actual token costs people who keep saying this will likely wish they had invested in something else earlier.

It's also very clear that providers are running variants of models, especially at the SotA levels. I wouldn't be surprised to find out at some point that 1-2 months after release OAI and Anthropic just run "good enough" quants to save themselves on inference (since they're losing money hand over fist). Another upside of local models is that I don't need to worry about model degradation at any given point.

I have the same plan and have never experienced that with K3. I have hit the limit within a 5 hour quota using Swarm, however.

These types of flip flop posts are the new security theater. One week Anthropic will post a doom and gloom about how open weight models running a fraction of a token per second on your Grandma's popped Android TV is a national security threat and the next week they'll tell you how awesome their 200+ billion parameter model is at doing something they don't actually allow you to do because they gatekeep all the normies. I really do hope history remembers them correctly, but I'm sure they'll be attributed as being a significant and load bearing linchpin during the new world order of LLMs.

Let me clarify my perspective here. You put the frontier providers at the top. That's probably representative of >80% of the total, global, inference. The other ones you mention? They're likely showcasing "green AI" as a differentiator, but comparatively, they likely represent a percent of global capacity.

And you don't get to put a feel good landing page from Meta and "declare victory" (I didn't) just the same. It means nothing because there isn't any accountability. Nice try.

The fact that you believe Meta, of all companies who's gone to great lengths to lie about their core business model, speaks volumes.

This also highlights my point: the norm is that the bulk of the inference and training providers have no goals.

They don't. The driver is ultimately responsible, as should OAI be. This is absolutely ridiculous that both Anthropic and OAI haven't had anyone jailed / fined for any of this.

I don't buy that - you can't distinguish. This sounds like a convenient way for people to say "my choice is better for the planet" with basically no basis.

Feel free to elaborate.

Pretty sure you're not able to use many models, besides local, if you need to guarantee where the energy produced powers them. I don't align with much of what's going on in frontier AI today. And I don't actually use it as much as I had been as I've invested in local hardware. But I'm still curious and continue to test frontier models on different tasks. My limited experience with Grok is that it's boundaries are much less rigid than Anthropic and OAI, IME.

But if the planet is the only consideration here you can't use any in of these models when pointing a finger at one. They're putting them wherever they can. And I'll be one of the first one to cheer some of these systems being dismantled after the fallout / when the US has some political leaders that have a spine again.

Not a fan of Elon but latest Grok gets shit done and isn't a narc model from Anthropic/OAI.

Because it's not as good IRL. I find that DS Flash does just as good of a job on most things.
