some things are just dumb on their face

> I think AI has been a net positive and has been used responsibly at my work. It can be used to make existing products better and more secure. You just won't naturally hear about that. There's some challenges like emerging social mores but overall good.

It always works best when layering on top of good human code. The thing is, you start to run out of that as you lean in. Tricky.

haha so if someone gives me a salary, they can't be a dumbfuck?

they give me a salary because they need what i can do btw

my favorite thing to do is get a salary from these execs and work like 2h per week. they literally pay me to play video games at 2pm kek.

i have looked at all my software dev contracts and none of them say 40hrs/week. which is nice because that means i am free to work whatever.

right but before, employees' shares counted. that's one of the changes i'm talking about.

i've been doing it for a literal decade hehe

always above expectations on my perf reviews btw :) so i guess i'm fulfilling my at-will employment contract just fine! (nothing in that contract says "40 hours" or "9-5")

lol okay i'm glad you're enjoying defending execs you don't even know.

the problems were due to their decisions a year before. some problems can't be solved with a half dozen extra sets of hands.

mythical man month also applies here. people with no context cost something to get ramped up.

at my current job alone, i can count over 5 times in the last 5 years where mgmt threw people at a problem and didn't actually help if not hurt.

now, leadership will never admit they're wrong and they act like they're heroes. but i can confidently say that they made things worse.

yes tho. once you hit a certain number of shareholders (which anthropic clearly is past), you used to have to report with the regularity and rigor of a public company. so if you do, why not IPO and get some cash?

that and other changes that enabled private investment at this scale. it's all about privatize the pump socialize the dump via IPO

nope. it basically says "if we haven't fired you, you're good." (at-will)

it's kinda nice because you can manipulate your output and do less work. so long as my employer doesn't know my sausage is made, i'm free to add sawdust ;)

I've done this for years thanks to remote work

they were not forced but they were forced to report like a public company even if they didn't IPO. all the cost with none of the benefit was an incentive to IPO earlier.

In today's world, yes.

But in the past, rules & regulations basically forced companies to IPO at a certain size. This meant that when they IPO'd, there was still growth upside.

Those rules are gone now, so they can stay private and have all the growth happen privately. When they IPO now, it's more just an exit. The growth was captured by insiders only.
