Compression is tax evasion!

Oh that is fair. So maybe cost can help drive the decision? If going direct gets me delivery with $10 but door dash needs $40 I am incentivized as a customer to go direct.

I visited China 5 years ago. All the fancy cars of the upper middle class were German. Audis, vw, bmws and Mercedes everywhere.

I visited this year again. Almost none of the new cars were German. I did not see most of their latest models on the streets. And I definitely did not see a single German electric car.

They now have a dozen of brands some of them under the tech umbrella of Huawei that provides the info-entertainment and auto pilot and they are everywhere! And btw the assembly quality was now reaally nice.

No idea about their safety or longevity, but it was nice being driven in them

Google maps has the website links of your restaurants. You can just click it and order there.

The restaurant then can broadcast the driver demand and delivery prize in their website. Drivers can be scanning all the restaurants in their area and decide if they want to take it or not. Restaurants over time will build lists of reliable drivers whom they will favor when matching.

Cool they will now charge $50 per delivery and give the drivers -10$ ?

There is zero cost of building matching systems (maybe 200$ worth of Claude subscription). Drivers and restaurants will be better off if they build their own ones. These centralized platforms need to die ASAP.

On the touchscreen: Folks, we are just whining boomers.

The young generation are raised on ipads and smartphones. They expect that each screen is a touchscreen.

If you watch a young kid interacting with a laptop you will see their confusion when touching the screen has no effect.

Mods are finally happy.

I understand what you are saying, it just seems that this technology in contrast to any other productivity related technology is deflationary, because there is no alternative avenue to employ the idle labor. Not now, not in the future.

Where will people work on if both blue and white collar jobs go away? In brothels?

No extra value was generated in the example. If anything, AI in this example reduces the price of the product AND employment.

Value was destroyed.

The hope is that all these unemployed engineers can somehow generate value? Even if they do they need to generate enough value that would employ 4 engineers.

So the price of the product will just fall by 80%, unless nobody else cares to compete.

Where? I am not aware of any significant business improvement on the actual bottom line.

We all feel more productive. But did your rust rewrite or my fancy react dashboard produce more value?

I love chocolate.

But man some some times I wonder how desperately hungry were the people who made something edible out of the cocoa tree.

Yeah if you borrow against it, IT IS REAL. The lender considered it real!

Maybe we should replace the car speed measurement with something exponential?

Instead of mph/kph the speed limit and speedometers could be on QuadraticSpeedUnits.

This. A tesla model Y going 60mph has almost 2 times the kinetic energy (75MJ) of the same car going 45mph (40MJ)

Your stupid brain thinks, oh I am just 10ish over the limit.
