Ever since I learned it's as simple as option-hyphen on a Mac, I've loved the em-dash. Still don't have the hang of typing it on a Chromebook or Windows PC though.

I don't understand how this violates point 1, and I assume by violating point 4 you mean this essay is LLM assisted but the unnamed authors (Serokell PR?) don't disclose that. I'm not as certain that this post is AI written - it might just be "written by PR committee voice".

Ah, I forgot about the GPU + extra battery in the base. I was thinking of a typical detachable. But the Surface Book still is heavier than it could be in order to accommodate the balance and a usable detached battery life.

CPU + battery in the top-cover kills the balance of the laptop and makes the whole thing heavier. It's a really awkward design compared to a clamshell laptop with a very thin display-only lid.

Flip-around convertible or kickstand with soft-cover keyboard both work a lot better, but also both have trade-offs.

I somewhat fondly recall my old HP Windows Pen PC where the screen would twist and lay back down over the keyboard. That thing was a brick, but it had the correct balance for a laptop and the keyboard keys were out of the way in tablet mode. Maybe Apple will bring that form factor back, but with a super thin OLED display and a really lightweight device.

Hoping for a follow-up convertible touchscreen pen-capable MacBook Air. iPad Pro is just too limiting with iPadOS and it's thicker and heavier than a MacBook Air or any of my convertible Chromebooks.

> 48GB 16 inch MBP

That's wicked overkill for ssh + browser. A 15" MacBook Air would work for this really nicely. This is how I use my 13" Air, and for the big screen I dock it at a desk.

I wish they could bring back the 11" Air or 12" MacBook and trim the bezels for something like this. It would be an amazingly portable computer. The 11" iPad Pro with keyboard case is almost this, but you're stuck with iOS and it's actually pretty thick and heavy compared to a MacBook.

> Can we measure and quantify caring?

Yes, by observing the quality of the output and means of production. If it's the standard "AI house style" one gets when prompting image models, by which I am immediately and viscerally repelled, then I am confident assuming it's a low effort "typed in a prompt, got a thing, called it a day" result, rather than actually applying some taste and judgement and trying a bunch of different things in different styles and adjusting things until it's something nice.

The "usual fairground airbrushed abominations" at least have a distinctive style and mean that someone cares enough to do more than type into a computer a few times and say "eh, good enough."

Thanks for coming and answering some questions on the thread. I vouched your comments so they appear. Looks like LCOE is something you're thinking about pretty deeply, as I'd expect. Good luck with your projects!

$7000 DGX Spark as a media PC, what a world. Surely there's cheaper hardware that can run a decent voice assistant.

Yeah I'm curious about that too. It's an interesting way to get non-weather dependent power in some remote locations, but how useful is that over solar+batteries really? Maybe it's cheaper than synthetic methane?

And it takes a lot of money to pay a crew to risk their ship in the strait.
