It's okay if it did both. The pre-AI world was not some hellscape - people felt they had a purpose. Not so much now.

> I have been focusing a lot more on testing and "manual" validation than on reviewing individual lines of code.

Same, but there is a reason I did not choose to work in QA so this sucks too

How does one pull a 6 figure salary from a blog site in 2026?

> Density increases and ubiquitous transit result in HIGHER levels of housing shortages.

Wow, that's a new one

Yeah, I simply could not give a shit less about any of this. Everyone involved has furthered the agenda of awful companies that harm society.

Tech workers are a small subset of the population that have been able to live very privileged lives when compared to everyone else.

I think the average person lives a much harder life and has been doing so for a while. Should we really be surprised by the lack of empathy when folks in tech had little to show for the common man this whole time?

> I think it is the duty of any responsible engineer to look for and cite prior art and related work, if only to compare notes.

Maybe 5 years ago that would be the expectation but all etiquette has been thrown out the window with AI. I think you expect too much.

Yeah, you're right. Best to keep your head in the sand and assume best case scenario.

Can you not look back a year or even 6 months to see the progress that has been made? The pace of change is incredible.

How does that not lead you to same conclusion that everyone else is having? That this is only going to improve.

It's so shortsighted to make an assessment only on what exists today.

I find this hard to believe without seeing the data. I finished high school when the first iPhone was released. It was absolutely awful for me and many folks I grew up with.

I cannot imagine how much more difficult it would have been with social media and cameras everywhere like it is today.

> I don't buy the idea that young people specifically have some major crisis while everybody else is doing fine

You can't imagine the stress and anxiety that is fabricated by immature minds from being on the internet all of the time?

Yes, EV's solve one of the many negative impacts of cars. It's not some magic bullet.

They still depend on minerals that require destructive mining from equipment that runs on fossil fuels, still use rubber tires, still has tons of plastics that are made with petroleum, still dependent on a power grid mainly sustained by fossil fuels...

We should be thinking bigger than this, even. Walk, ride a bike, or take public transit whenever possible. If it's not possible, try to move somewhere where it is.

We must be willing to be slightly inconvenienced for the greater good instead of arguing about which type of car to drive. People don't want to have that conversation, though.

Yes, let's focus on the .35% we give to NASA.

This is an incredibly sad perspective to have. We have to have higher standards than this, man.

> Maybe it makes sense to take a risk.

Holy shit, society needs to eat people like this. We're all being driven off a cliff by insanely naive tech bros.

We're all being impacted by the decisions of a few people. World altering stuff, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. I can only observe these crazy comments from HN and wait for it all to fall apart. It's maddening.

> Are you intellectually prepared to believe that Claude Code is as dangerous as cigarettes

Yes. Death is just one of the results. There are many, many other ways this could dangerously impact children.
