At no point has anyone in power ever operated otherwise. Frankly I'm surprised that you're surprised.

Slaps on the wrist haven't effected meaningful change in the last several decades so at this point yeah, the penalties for breaking the law should be just as disastrous and life altering for a big company as it is for you and me.

Yes, except parent is correct. Physcial and chemical mean very different and specific things in this context.

Calling photosynthesis a physical reaction is flatly incorrect no matter how you want to look at it. It is a physics reaction, sure, but "physical reaction" specifically means a Newtonian mechanical, reversible process at the macro scale.

A "chemical reaction" specifically means a (trivially) irreversible quantum/atomic reaction involving chemical bonds at the atomic/molecular scale.

Wireless power and ""ambient energy"" are incompatible with real physics.

Sure, they're real phenomena that actually do exist, but the physics are such that they're almost entirely useless beyond extremely specific and very limited applications.

These things have been known and studied for decades now, and the best use we have is charging your phone when you set it down on a special pad. Energy harvesting applications are good for sending a single radio packet once a week. It's just fundamental limitations of the universe.

Anyone excited about wireless power or energy harvesting hasn't read any further than "wireless power and energy harvesting". They aren't what you think they are.

This tends to simply not be that much of a problem for "lower" species.

I remember when "as reliable as GitHub" would have been a compliment

Have to say, I've never been disappointed by a Dell monitor.

Because it's graphine and the entire point is that google is not involved in any transaction between you and your banking app.

That's the kind of statement dreamed up by product managers who are not and have never met a gamer. This is what happens when you think you can imagine what your market wants from first principles without actually talking to anyone involved.

This also applies to programmers >:(

You can't be the "Let's Encrypt of" anything if it's self-hosted. The entire point of Let's Encrypt is that there is a centralized reputable entity of note signing everyone's keys. Without that, it's entirely worthless. It's no better than a self-signed SSL cert or putting your own PGP key on a document manually. There's no point in a layer of abstraction atop that.

That's only because they were all designed before the always-on spyware madness began.

There's nothing obvious about it. Meta makes money on ads, period. Scams work and get clicks. Therefore, meta makes money on scams running rampant on their platform.

This is by far the least interesting/worst kind of project emerging lately.

"I didn't want to pay trivial money for a product, so I paid nontrivial money to have an AI make a version that's worse in every way that matters"

Who cares?
