so many TLDs that seem to be exploiting similarity to existing ones?

.cmo/.con are particularly egregious

The part I hate the most is they got rid of the dictionary/thesaurus/etymology thing and replaced it with AI overview. Now "define <word>" or "<word> synonyms" gives you an AI overview with consistently worse output than the nice, consistent and deterministic dictionary output.

the repo description https://github.com/google/ax is "Google's open agentic orchestrator"

I think OpenAI was surprised to find their agents had access to the unrestricted internet :P

same here! I got into Scratch at the age of 7 and without it (and the Scratch community), I wouldn’t have any career (or even a plan for one). I also worked as an intern on the Scratch team at the Scratch Foundation.

I also know that one of the important developers for the Asahi Linux drivers also started on Scratch. I think there’s a lot of real software engineers who started on Scratch (and the Scratch community, which is often overlooked)

These 'integrations' everywhere just mean we get more APIs that can be accessed programmatically, which I think is good for users, even if you don't plan to use to use AI. It's like the optimistic web 2.0 APIs everywhere days

Couldn’t you just prefix your search with KDE? Search engines aren’t that bad. I like the Apple approach where apps are just named what they do.

(Minus Safari. I wonder why they went with Safari.)

I know agents have lowered the cost to make a website to be a few cents for tokens and a couple dollars for a domain name, but isn’t all this a little excessive for a few line long markdown file!? Why not just display the ‘skill’ itself with a few lines commenting on what it does/how it helps?

This is something I’ve seen before. Someone is registering domain names related to open source projects and then ‘creating’ slop websites about the projects. Not sure what the play is, or whether this falls into that category, but it’s really weird and takes control away from open source maintainers in a scary way. Maybe it’s extortion or maybe it’s an malware thing. I highly doubt it’s out of the goodness of someone’s heart.

Open source maintainers shouldn’t have to register their projects as trademarks/proactively register domains to avoid this, but that seems like the only strategy?

The new Framework Pro laptop is supposed to be pretty good. Anyone have any experience with it yet?

I’m in Japan right now on a holiday and I was blown away by how easy it was to get set up with Suica through Apple Wallet / Apple Pay. In fact, I did the initial set up back home in Toronto just by tapping a few buttons in the native Apple Wallet app. Took probably 30 seconds.

It is so convenient to use Express Transit Cards on iOS… I also just found out that there’s something similar for Presto cards in Toronto so I’m going to have to set that up too.

In Japan right now. I didn’t even have to install anything, just went to Apple Wallet, add card, selected Suica, and then could create and load up a card. Plus it gets set up as an express transit card so I can tap my locked phone to pay for transit or snacks (even when it’s dead). Super pleasant experience.
